Or at least their reality shows. I got caught up in the Project Runway marathon they were showing yesterday and realized I liked Jeffrey a hell of a lot better these days than I did when I was suffering through new episodes. At least the bastard had talent, which is more than I can say for Vincent, and hell, back then I hadn't had to suffer through Ilan. *gags*

I did watch last night's Top Design, too. Oh, man, how much do I want to live in the pirate room?! THIS MUCH. I know some people were giving Erik shit for the room being too much like a theme park, but HELLO. I would love to live in a theme park now. What's this only-kids-can-have-rooms-like-that shit? And I think it says something that the ones at the top took a theme and ran with it. Yay for Goil's geometric room and Carisa's jungle room, which if I cannot have the pirate room I would sell my left arm for a more in-depth version of the jungle room.

Michael can shut it. All he does is whine and moan and ... seriously, that was a grandma room. That's the kind of room your mother picks out the decorations for, complete with those Christmas presents that you hate because they're ugly and flowery and vile and only keep because they're from both grandmothers, and you just kind of stand in the corner and pout. Er, no, I'm not speaking from experience. *shifty eyes* (I was a tomboy with a pink ruffled canopy bed. When I finally talked my mother into getting rid of the ruffles and the pink-and-blue flowered wallpaper border, she replaced it with a dark green and light blue paisley theme, thereby verifying my assertion that my mother had never actually met me AT ALL.)

Also, Goil and Erik should not run to each other and hug after winning/nearly winning a challenge. It gives me ideas.

Good riddance to John. I didn't like his style anyway and the histrionics were getting to me.

So, yeah, if you're new here from the friending meme, hi! *waves*

As you can see, I'm hopelessly addicted to Bravo's creative reality shows (but only their creative shows -- The Real Housewives can all get run over by a bus and splatter in a pool of Botox and silicone on the road for all I care) so while there are new episodes of Project Runway, Top Chef, and Top Design to be had I will be discussing them at great length. They and The Amazing Race are the only reality shows I'm hooked on. Travel, food, and design? YAY. :)

Let me boil it down for the lot of you who haven't been around a while -- I'm a twenty-nine-year-old single woman living with a toothless Siamese cat and two chinchillas in Northeastern Pennsylvania. This is why I tend to get a wee bit geeky about the Scranton references on The Office. ;) Anyway, I am the Dean and my little brother Bryan is the Sam, complete with being annoyingly taller and needing a smack upside the head more often than not. I work at a CD/DVD factory, where I unfortunately don't get a discount on DVDs and wonder if the security guards would get the irony in me trying to steal one of the "Stop Piracy!" posters all over the factory.

I'm trying to become a published writer and have been working on a book series about a guy from the Scranton area with uncontrollable magical abilities for something like five years now. *crosses fingers* For fun, I write fanfic. Yes, I see the one-track-mindedness of writing fanfic for fun and original fic as (hopefully in the future) a real career. Don't judge me, damn it. *giggles*

Fic-wise, I have pretty much no barriers left. I'm pretty sure Supernatural and Project Runway broke me -- before getting hooked on both I never wrote slash, porn, incest, or kink. So there you go. I tag all of my fic by fandom, so if you want to find it I've got them listed on the right side of my layout. Plus, if you're an SPN fan (which you should be, because it's an SPN friending meme, right? ;)), I've also got them tagged as "wincest" and "non-wincest" just in case the Sam/Dean is not your thing and you just want to skip directly to the gen and het. I also write pretty consistently ... every couple of days I'm posting something.

My current fandoms are Supernatural, Heroes, Ugly Betty, The Office US (still haven't gotten a chance to write in that one just yet), Grey's Anatomy, Dexter, and Top Design (although that's mostly because I'm desperate for Project Runway and I'll take what I can get). I still watch Veronica Mars although they're really starting to lose me this season, I watch Doctor Who although I probably will never write fic in it because it just doesn't attack me with plotbunnies and I get antsy with Britishisms anyway, I watch Boston Legal but usually don't make a big deal out of it, and I watch The Dresden Files although it's not latching onto me quite the way I'd like and I'd much rather just stick with the books. Fandoms that have lost me include Lost (right about the time that the plot got too convoluted and ridiculous, away I went), Jericho (*yawn*), and Buffy and Angel (the last couple of seasons of each ruined my goodwill, I think). Shows that I loathe with an unearthly passion include American Idol, The Apprentice, Seinfeld, and Sex and the City. I'm sort of a crime junkie so if I'm not watching crime shows on A&E I'll watch reruns of Without a Trace, any Law and Order, and CSI until I'm blue in the face, no matter how bad I know the science is. In fact I'll tune into CSI Miami specifically because the science, logic, and acting are generally just that bad. I'm also a bit of a disaster geek -- I've seen pretty much every episode of Seconds from Disaster and have episodes of Air Crash Investigation on my MP3 player.

I tend to gravitate towards fictional characters who are utter bastards, either outright or underneath everything -- Nathan Petrelli, Jayne Cobb, Dick Casablancas, Denny Crane, Dexter Morgan, Alex Karev. Which is really weird, because on reality shows I can't stand the utter bastards. Heh. :)

Hmm, what else? Uh, I barely if ever finish everything on my plate, not because of a diet or anything, just some weird thing I have. I lived in DC for two years and loved it (with the exception of a wee bit of personal drama due to miscommunication, but it happens ... *shrugs*), but I'm really grateful to be back in PA because I just like living in a small town more. And I'm way more comfortable in the sweltering heat than I am in the blistering cold, meaning I'm just loving this February. *eye roll*

So that's me in a nutshell.

Help, help! I'm in a nutshell!

EDIT: Winchestercon is in LA this year! Los Angeles! Dude, you don't understand. I've never been farther west than ... uh, New Orleans? Yeah, I think that was the farthest west I've been. Now all I have to do is leave the country at least once and I can die happy. :)

I hadn't thought it that way, but you're right: Bravo's "creative" reality shows are different from the usual run of reality show because the people on them have to *do* something, be good at something creative and physically real, rather than just standing around being attractive (as well as generally vapid or vicious) as they perform generally useless tasks. So I don't feel so bad for liking a "reality" show now! I do like "Life on the D List" as well, but only because Kathy Griffin is so damned funny.

I also totally get you on the concept of the "characters who are bastards" love, but I would term it more along the lines of "characters who are gray". For example: Alliance agents were utter bastards, Jayne Cobb was a gray character, Mal and Zoe were the good guys (although on that show, even the good guys have some gray to them, as one could easily term Mal a gray along with Jayne.) On HL, Kronos or Kalas was an utter bastard, Methos was gray, and Duncan is the good guy. On XF, Cigarette Smoking Man is an utter bastard, Kryceck is gray, Mulder and Scully are the good guys. Heroes: Linderman is an utter bastard, Nathan and Bennet are gray, Hiro and Peter are the good guys. (Sorry to natter on, but this is fun!) So that might clear up your dislike of the utter bastards on reality shows -- they actually *are* bastards and are not merely "gray", like the fictional characters you love.

I've seen the series and have read the first book, and there are some major differences between the two. The plot of the first book (for the most part) takes up all 12 (?) episodes of the series, except certain areas/crimes are expanded upon. And there are some things that happen in one that I can't remember seeing/reading in the other.

I prefer the series over the first book (and will be buying it when it comes out on DVD), mainly because of Michael C Hall's presence as Dexter, and because the plot seems more thorough than how the book is written. I am looking forward to the second book because it will be a new experience for me, and there's nothing for me to compare it to (unless they pick it up for a second season).

I so know how that feels. Wait it's awesome actually. If you don't think about Special Hell that is.

Fandoms that have lost me include Lost
That totally cracked me up. But yeah Lost lost me after Season 2. Now and then I'd like to impress my friends with the knowledge of it I still have though, by ticking off all the unbelievable things that currently reside on that island.

It's funny, I've been reading your journal for the last 2 years...not for any real reason, but because I stumbled across it and I thought you were a fantastic writer. I poke my head up and offer financial info, and otherwise just lurk quietly.

I love LA...most of my friends still live there as they are all aspiring to be..something. I hope you make it out there, it's just so much fun there.

You know what set me off all over again about that asstard? It was finding out that right after the show he quit his job at Casa Mono and he put a copy of a song called "Money in the Bank" on his Myspace. For fuck's sake, has that idiot ever SEEN a reality show before?
