Tennessee lawmakers propose issuing death certificates for abortions.

Tell me I'm not the only one whose first question is how they plan on issuing death certificates for children who were never born in the first place. And why can I just see where asking that question of these morons would lead?

Good lord. Are they going to start issuing death certificates every time a woman miscarries too?

Not to mention fertilized eggs that are flushed from the womb...?

Hell. Why stop at the fertilized eggs? They could do one a month for every pre-menopausal woman.

Just in case, you know?

In case this sort of thing, said in jest here, seems a bit too farfetched in reality: They have forensic vagina inspectors in El Salvador. "In the event that the woman’s illegal abortion went badly and the doctors have to perform a hysterectomy, then the uterus is sent to the Forensic Institute, where the government’s doctors analyze it and retain custody of her uterus as evidence against her."

Exactly. There was a comedian once who did a bit based on the Far Right idea of life officially beginning at conception and taking it a bit further. He said he wanted to arrest every woman who ever turned him down for sex, on the charge of spermicidal homicide.

...Okay. There seriously is not a word in the English lexicon for how fucked up and wrong that is.

Surely for a death certificate you need a date of birth...and you know, there's no birth. Will they leave it blank? *facepalms*

As the Planned Parenthood spokesperson points out, this seems rather obviously to violate HIPAA. The federal government tends to get annoyed when you try to take an endrun around their privacy laws. ::coughs::

Which is to say that even were this to pass, the courts would smack the legislature up the head so fast, you'd barely see it coming.

Morons. Barely literate morons.

Well, technically speaking, they do already issue death certificates for fetal demise after some cutoff of gestational age. I don't know if it's 12 weeks or 20 weeks or what, but we get fetal demise certificates pretty often for the docs at work to fill out. But those are for stillborns and miscarriages. And they're probably only for the families that plan some sort of funeral/burial/cremation for the fetus. But yeah, doing it for all abortions? That's a complete and utter violation of privacy. Helloooo Griswald v. Connecticut. Jesus. Tennessee. It's a disgusting place.

Which these people are obviously encouraging. I can see the death certiicate now... "death due to lack of birth"

Scary thought, no matter where you live.

The idjit, Stacey Campfield, who proposed this law probably isn't under the illusion the law will ever go into effect, he KNOWS it will fail. He's from the Christian Right (I looked up his blog) and they love to feel put-upon. He's showing off how godly he is to his voting base and will behave like a good Christian martyr when this unconstitutional proto-law inevitably goes down in flames.

Jesus Crossdressing Christ. Of course, this is all irrational, religious moralizing that takes into account pretty much NO kind of sense.

[livejournal.com profile] teenygozer is right; this is probably some dumb stunt to make the guy seem properly Christian and insane. Every time I see the U.S. political system credit "godliness," I get a little angrier, and I'm not even an American. Do these people even understand what "reason" means? o.O

Too many crazy christians: Just a rant here.

...wow. I mean... okay, I, personally, am pro-life. I don't argue my point much, because most other pro-lifers are batshit insane.

But trying to humanize, like, a zygote by giving it a death certificate (which can't even work because of no date of birth, right?)... I don't even have words.

The thing that kills me? That these zealots go after women. That's their focus: persecuting pregnant women. All this energy spent trying to tell me what I can and can't do with my uterus...

Just think what they could accomplish if they put in even a fraction of that energy into finding shelters for abused women and children...

For, oh, finding homes for all those unwanted children in the foster care system, let alone the ones up for adoption.

It's never about lifting up, it's about beating down, and how Christian is that?
