May. 20th, 2007 09:18 pm-- Joss Whedon is made of WIN. For some reason this makes me think a little of the thought that popped into my head the other day while I was at work about the way people reacted to heliocentrism in regards to Galileo and the church in comparison to the way some fundamentalists froth at the mouth over evolution now. Dude, I don't even know where that thought came from. That sucker's just WAAAY too complicated and college-edition to emerge from the brain of someone packaging nine thousand Michael Buble albums.
-- I'm currently watching Gene Simmons Family Jewels. I continue to be greatly saddened that I can't find a Nick Simmons look- and act-alike who's ten years older, local, and interested in me. 'Cause seriously, that's my sense of humor RIGHT THERE.
(Is that a really big birthmark on Sophie's cheek or a bruise? Because it looks like a birthmark to me and is so that's some killer cover-up she's wearing to hide it most of the time.)
-- The cat has decided that the most comfortable spot in the entire apartment is stretched across my arms as I attempt to type.
-- As much as it does resemble the premise of Brimstone reading the summary is making me really want to try Reaper. Hopefully I won't want to throttle the writers TOO much.
-- Sarah Connor Chronicles! Woo!
Oh, man, PLEASE DON'T SUCK. Television show, if you fuck up my favorite female character ever, I will flip my shit.
OTHER EDIT: Oh! Also, an article from the Scranton Times-Tribune about the actors who play Kevin and Angela on The Office visiting the area.

Date: 2007-05-21 01:48 am (UTC)I could have coped with Brimstone better if it wasn't for the relentlessly cold colour filter they used. I could see why, but it just put me off.

Date: 2007-05-21 07:36 pm (UTC)Meh. I appreciate his feminism and all (see icon), but I think he's getting fired up about the wrong thing. People stand around and watch a murder not because they think the victim is worthless and deserves to die. It's a groupthink problem. The more people are present, the less responsibility any one person feels to take action. (I'm trying to find some articles on the social psych research to cite, but they all require LexisNexus or JSTOR, and wikipedia doesn't have anything on agency.) It's not a pardon by any means, and it doesn't detract from the atrocity and misogyny of honor killings, but it does mean that he's probably overstating his case.
But I do appreciate the call to action - any action, even one I personally disagree with. I've been trying to make the same point in my own LJ. But I'm not Joss Whedon and therefore not made of win, so I've had less success. :-/
