That's the cat, and that is his toy cow. You'll notice he's torn off one of its legs and ripped up its face playing with it too rough and that it really needs to be washed. But considering the extent to which he's destroyed it I might just be better off getting him a new toy.

Yeah, that'll go over like gangbusters. *sigh*

you buy the new toy and when he gets completely distracted by it, you get rid of the old one.

It works, so long as you don't get caught tossing the old one away.

I tend to just wash old toys, then I keep them in a closed cannister with some catnip for a little while before I give them back. I actually rotate toys this way. We have 3 cats and try not to spend too much $$ on new toys because they really don't care if a toy is old-looking.

When my kitty fell in love with "Jingle Pony", I bought five of them...and when they got scrubby I just switched them out.

But my cat might be stupider than yours. Not that your cat is stupid.
