Barak's getting ripped for not responding sooner, the comment about "the community we 'built'," and going to the media before coming to us, not to mention bunches of comments from paid users saying they won't be renewing their accounts. It's pretty much fandom as a whole smacking him and them upside the head to knock some sense into them. If they can't learn their lesson from the fact that their apology post managed to garner sixteen freaking pages of comments in the handful of minutes since it was first posted, I'm going to start believing monkeys throw their crap around professionally in their offices and just call themselves a company.

But, hey, better late than never. It's a step in the right direction. Uh, I can't come up with any other cliches this late at night/early in the morning.

I think the reason I'm not more RAAAAAAAGE about the whole situation is that they just bit themselves in the ass financially. When the permanent accounts go on sale they'll be lucky if they sell one, and so many paid accounts slipping into unpaid status because of this is bound to affect them. Maybe they actually WILL have to kiss our collective asses a little after this.

Sadly, I can understand their mistakes more than I can understand all the whining and shameless wank. And I have no sympathy whatsoever for anyone whose judgment is so poor that they included stupid things in their interests. Why would you do something to encourage creepy people to surf their way to your journal? It doesn't make any kind of sense.

Something like "incest survival" would make a hell of a lot more sense as an interest than just "incest". Just "incest" may be sort of convenient, but it's contextually bizarre.

Hell, I decided to put "h:lots" in my interests rather than "homicide" because I didn't like to think of the bizarre sorts of people who might turn up at my journal. (Not that creepy people can't find my journal anyway, but I'm not putting a fucking welcome mat out for them.) "Incest" has the potential to be far creepier. It's just flat a bad idea.
