I've only ever seen Faith once, and that was one ep of Angel, so I don't know the whole backstory aside from the cliffs-notes version you get talking to fans.
That little bit I saw of her was fine, though. I wasn't crazy about her, but I didn't dislike her. They wrote her well enough that she fit.
