Okay, so since I didn't talk about it yesterday ...
Best performance of the night by FAR was Kevin James. I didn't see his first performance on there until just now on Youtube, and holy hell, that guy's amusing. I just do not even get how he does those tricks, and there's humor and creativity, and even when it looks like he's screwing up he's totally tricking you. It's awesome.
Anthony Reed did a fabulous job, too, and what does it say about this year that the magicians are really kicking ass? I don't know, I think I may be predisposed to like him anyway because I think he's kind of cute, but he really does a great sexy spin of classic tricks and his performances are smooth and well-rehearsed. Which, hey, if he studied under Kevin James that does not surprise me at ALL.
I'm really annoyed by the judges' response to Cas Haley's look, though. The guy turned out a great performance and all they can talk about is what he was wearing. You know what? No, I'm sorry. The guy plays great fun music, has a fabulous voice, and sings like one of your buddies at a party or something, like he's just having fun. What exactly do they expect him to wear? I like the casual look, damn it.
I loved the fifties rock band with that punk edge, which I hadn't seen before. Their performance last night was pretty dreadful admittedly but they had a great look and you could tell from their reaction afterwards backstage that this was maybe the worst performance of their career, in which case I have faith that they're usually really awesome.
I was really disappointed in the Glamazons, though. Still look fabulously gorgeous, but Sharon was right -- the harmonies were WAY off.
And Kashif's still there! I don't even get my Kashif love. Well, okay, I do, because he's sweet and everybody pretty much knows he's not going to win but there's just something endearing about the guy. I keep saying it's like watching this:
SERIOUSLY.
But ... but Boy Shakira? They're seriously going to keep Boy Shakira? *sigh* Okay, whatever.
Oh, and last night was the first time I'd seen that blonde girl with the puppets on here -- and hello, where did you get your blue contacts, sweetie, because they're absurdly blue -- and the first thing I realized was that she was one of the people who'd been in USA Network's "Characters welcome" commercials. Remember the girl in the pink dress? That was her.
At this point I'm rooting for Kevin James on the variety side and Cas Haley on the singing side. And for anybody who missed them in their first performances:
Oh, and I found video of Cas performing in Texas at some bar (stupid people in the background, HOMG SHUT UP):
