As I drive to work through the woods:

Me: *sees something big and dark in the road* Huh, what's that?
Little bear: *freezes in the middle of the road*
Me: Holy crap, that's a bear!
Little bear: Holy crap, that's some chick in a car! *scampers around the road in circles before diving headfirst into the bushes on the roadside*
Me: Heh. That was dignified.

*****

As I drive to the mini-mart during my lunch break:

Me: *sees something little and dark in the road* What the hell is that, a Persian?
Skunk: *waddles happily across the road*
Me: *squeaks and swerves around it* What the fuck am I going to almost hit next, a goddamn giraffe?!

It actually made the news in Finland when somewhere in Sweden a camel was found on the roadside. It would have been an awesome story if the camel hadn't been dead. As such it was mostly sad. But it proves there's still hope for spotting that giraffe on your next car trip.

A turkey very nearly flew into my car on my way to work the other day.

Which would have been very not cool.

Hee, I remember when I used to live pretty much across the road from a state park. I really had no idea that young bears were brave enough to get into the road, so when I first saw one, I thought for sure it was a large black dog. Once I realized it was a bear, I was pretty much doing the "OMG! Bear! What do I do!" dance in my car. Unlike yours, though, mine just sat there in the middle of the road, for a good couple of minutes. I couldn't really go around him, and was also pretty afraid there was a big mommy bear nearby who would think my car was a tin can.
I live on a much more well-traveled road now, but there has to be some sort of skunk and fox congregation nearby, because I see them on a regular basis, slinking near the shoulder.

Man, you're lucky! All I ever almost-hit were possums. :P

(Possums are scary, man...)
