Okay, I'm going to ask you guys for a favor. A big, big favor that's not really that big of a favor.

NBC gave Journeyman two weeks notice. Now, I love Heroes and Chuck, but when I get to sit down and watch my Monday shows Journeyman is the one I watch first. I feel bad for it because it's getting really ridiculously AWESOME and nobody's watching it, and I love it so, and it just sucks on toast that so few people hung out to find out that it's getting better and better with every passing episode. And now I'm going to be really freaking depressed because I haaaaate when shows I love get cancelled.

So here's what I'm asking all of you to do. Go to NBC.com and watch this week's episode. Or hell, don't watch the episode. Play it in another window while you're off playing video games or making dinner or whatever. And then do it again next week. (Don't worry, I'll be bugging you again next week. Heh.) You don't have to watch it, just download it. The more downloads it gets, the more of a chance one of my favorite news shows is not going to get fucking cancelled on me.

And hey, if you want to watch, consider this a pimp post. 'Cause, seriously, it's getting really painfully awesome.

Pleeeeeeeeease? *bats eyelashes at you*

EDIT: HOMIGOD BOOOOOOYS! LUUUUUUUUKE! AHHHHHHHHHHH! *flails happily*

Problem: Watching on NBC.com is kinda supporting the whole no paying the writers for new media thing, which is problematic.

One solution: if this is a cause you have interest in, then if you do watch it on NBC.com, also go buy a box of pencils, or otherwise contribute to the various strike funds.

*sigh* they really need to join the rest of us in the 21st century and step away from the Nielsen system.

its so good. and the last episode was so good. *frets*

From what I'm reading it doesn't look like watching it online will help. :( This is SO ANNOYING, I love this show!

Aw, HELL no. And also, crap.

You SEE? You see what happens when I fall for a show? This is exactly why I made this post.

*sigh* I will go ahead and watch the show again, online, and catch up on what I've missed, and hope it makes a difference. Because I hate to think that there are shows, like JM, that are too smart to live. Even though I know there are.

I never understood how they chose Nielsen homes. There's a guy on my flist who barely watches TV, but he and his husband have basically been stalked by Nielsen trying to get them to become members despite repeatedly saying that they don't watch TV. Meanwhile, no one I know IRL has ever even seen a Nielsen setup, much less participated.

Hell, I'm willing to try anyway, even with the writers' strike. I just ... fuck, I haven't hated the writers' strike until this precise moment, because I am all for writers getting paid for their work but ... but ... but my show. *whimpers*

Also, in that link:

We're hearing that the next two weeks are crucial for NBC's Journeyman. While nothing official has been decided, the rumor is that if the Nielsen numbers don't rise for the Nov. 19 and 26 episodes, the network will yank the show, without airing all the episodes produced.

The network is only interested in the live Nielsens, not DVR viewers or downloads, says a show staffer. This is a problem for the show, because the majority of emails the show gets is from fans who watch online. Since ads touting the ability to watch Journeyman for free online are common, that's hardly surprising.

...so, wait. Let me see if I get this. The networks are running out of produced scripted shows. They do not believe New Media exists, except in that they are making big bucks from it. However, they do not care about downloads, even though they are advertising them heavily, and making money, and they are going to dump a show which has produced episodes still in play.

Do you think it would be in poor taste to send them some videotapes or links or something, for content to include elementary logic?

I know, right? I was waiting for one of my favorite shows to get cancelled and break my heart since I haven't suffered through that particular heartache in a while and I was really, REALLY hoping it wouldn't be Journeyman.

I have a feeling I'm going to be writing a strongly worded letter today. And by "strongly worded," I mean, "There's going to be a lot of curse words I'm going to have to edit out, aren't there?"

You have outlined exactly what I Do Not Get about this.

I don't think Earth Logic was programmed into network executives' brains. They tend to use the Insane Troll Logic.

I only know of the Nielsen thing because I've seen a lot of people ranting about it on lj. It confuses the hell out of me though, it like in your comment it seems so .. not earth logic. However here they use a very similar system and its just so stupid.

I could support it if they let non-Americans watch the episodes, which I don't think they do.

Idjits. The audience for Journeyman is just like the audience for Jericho - attuned to new media and tech, and preferring to watch on *our* schedule, not theirs. I think I've watched pretty much every episode of Jericho on streaming video. Which, you know, has commercials (or why there is a strike right now, and why I just sent a box of pencils to the CW so I can watch Supernatural that way.)

i knew, I knew as soon as I started really enjoying the show the axe would fall. I think I am cursed when it coems to television. 80% of what I hate stays on the air, and 80% of what I love gets canceled.

I'd love to help, but if it's anything like the other American stations, it won't allow a European to do the download thing.

But it said in the article that they're not counting downloaded views! I am sad. Journeyman is just starting to get awesome. I don't want it to go.

I am frustrated because I always watch it online, but we're not tied into Nielson. Alas :(.
