If it happened recently and you can, take the battery out and leave it somewhere warm and dry for two or three days. I've saved more than one mobile phone dropped in water doing that.

Yeah, that's what I just started doing. Took me a little bit to get the screws undone (I really need to get me a teeny weeny Phllips head, honest to God) but hell, let's see if that helps.

my 1gig zen didn't cost the earth, but it's got THICK bubblewrap casing and sits in an embroidered pouchbagthingy and i basically nanny it everywhere.

if you still have the warranty... ? sometimes they don't look too closely at what's wrong (especially if it's dry again and just not running) and just give you a new one?

Have you tried rubbing alcohol? My boss recommended it to me after I dropped a set of earbuds into the sink one time-it makes the water evaporate faster and thus keeps things from corroding. It might be too late at this point, but if you really think it's fucked, no harm in trying, right?
