Just out of curiosity, does it count as a form of precognition, drinking Smirnoff in my default LJ icon when the Russians snap us up?

Yeah, didn't think so.

I just watched last night's Dexter. Homigod, y'all, this is getting AWESOME. How much do I love them putting Doakes into same space as Dexter when he's committing a murder? It's a wake-up call for the audience, because seriously, it's one thing to root for Dexter or want him to kill someone, but we've gotten so used to him killing people that putting Doakes there and showing us his reaction is a great way of slapping us in the face with just how much of a sick fuck Dexter really is.

I do agree with Doakes, though, that Dexter has a conscience. That's the thing -- for a serial killer, Dexter is not really a bad guy, which sucks because I get the impression a lot of the time that if Harry had gotten him some help when he was younger rather than steering the kid down this other dark path Dexter would have turned out ... well, not normal, but normal enough. I don't know ... I think sometimes when I watch that Harry did way more damage to Dexter than sitting in that shipping crate with Brian covered in his mother's blood did. He did a lot of good for the kid definitely -- with Brian he probably would have been equally fucked up, but Harry and Deb and, later, Rita and the kids did and do a lot for Dexter's humanity. But still.

Meanwhile, I still hate Lila and want her to be eaten by her own flying monkeys. What? I watched Tin Man tonight. If any fictional character aside from Azkadellia could shoot flying monkeys out of her boobs, y'all. I'm just sayin'.

Guess who only catches things on second viewings of Journeyman episodes? THIS CHICK RIGHT HERE.

I thought as much, but I was rewatching the episodes again and:

1. Livia and Dan sit outside Dan's apartment in a car she claims she "borrowed" in 1999 (episode 7, "Double Down") then follow past!Dan to the poker game.
2. Livia picks Dan up and drives him to the park where Emily is about to get arrested in 1995 for dealing drugs (episode 9, "Emily").

It's the same antique late-40s, early-50s car in both scenes. (Yeah, ask me about cars and see what the hell I know. It's old, it's got wheels. I'm good.) Which ... okay, the first time, I thought "borrowed" meant "stolen" because I wasn't really paying attention to the car. But, HELLO. She really is borrowing the car from someone, or at least leaving it in storage at their house so she'll always have transportation. It's got to be somebody who knows, and the easiest option is that it's family. (Well, really, who else has Dan told?) It's got to be the easiest option for her to get money as well -- she doesn't have Dan's ability to go buy "old currency" if she's living in 1948. It hasn't been made yet. Once again, she may be borrowing that from someone else as well, which might not be hard considering she can always give them hints on the stock market and which companies are going to do well. Just show up in the future and call a relative in the know to ask for cash.

It's totally Elliot Langley! You know it is! COME ON.

Oh, man, I love this show. Have I mentioned that lately? *swoons*

We've only seen first season, but we still think Dexter's only a serial killer because he thinks he's supposed to be. Of course the effect is the same for the people he kills...

She could just be borrowing the car from herself. One assumes the older Livia is there in current time.

I don't know ... I'm kind of undecided on whether or not I think she's still alive. On one hand, she very well could be, although at this point she'd have to be pushing a hundred. On the other hand I have this weird feeling from the things that she knows and she doesn't know that either she's not alive or she's incapacitated by age by the time 2007 rolls around.

I'm currently leaning towards incapacitated by age, because I do think that the whole thing does involve only being able to travel in one's lifetime and she has gone to the current day, but I just find it weird that even now that Dan and Katie both know where and when she's from there's been no contact from an older version of Livia personally. They're at a point now in 2007 where everyone involved -- Dan, Katie, Zach, an older version of Livia, and now Jack -- all know about the traveling. There'd be no need to hide the fact that she's still alive (although now an old woman) from any of them, and yet ... no contact from her.

I'm still thinking Elliot Langley is either a friend of her family or a relative or even her son. It would certainly explain why his past self would know exactly when to call Dan in the past when Livia had just left the scene if I'm remembering correctly.

EDIT: Oh, oh! And also, even if we assume that she is still alive in those trips to 1995 and 1999 and is basically loaning herself the car, that is a mint-condition antique. She'd have to be in her eighties by then. She may own it, but I really don't think an octogenarian is taking obviously loving care of that car. Not that I don't doubt that she loves it as well -- I could swear that's also the same car in the 1948 photo of her. I just get the impression that there's somebody who's taking care of her baby for her.

If she is dead (in 2007 or earlier), that might support her contacting son!Langley over the years even though she knows she's not going to grow old, because otherwise they have/will miss out on being a family. Maybe she adopted him out and pops up in his life every once in a while to steer him in the right direction. And borrow the car. Like Dan did with non-Mad Bomber Brother, actually that would also mirror Jack's car and how he's kept it over the years.
Although the having to stay within your own lifetime fits well with the shows style.

Those 'scare' mentions keep piling up too so her being pregnant when she pops back to 48 aren't feeling too farfetched for me.

And I have to wonder if the whole "travelling" is infectious in some way with a long incubation period, and so what will happen to Katie and potentially Jack in the future.

Now I want futurefic.
