Okay, aside from the whole "In Memoriam" thing ...

The Sopranos swept all the dramatic TV catagories. Bleh. I'm never a big fan of mob movies or TV shows -- that's a big part of why I've never been able to make it all the way through The Godfather -- so I'm mostly just glad that now they can stop getting nominated for stuff.

Javier Bardem and Daniel Day-Lewis weren't surprises, and it didn't shock me at all that No Country For Old Men took the big prize, but I'm not about to argue any of those awards, especially considering that I really love nearly everything the Coen brothers put out and I'm glad it's looking as if they're going to take Best Picture this year. And Javier Bardem cleans up really well, so that's nice. I'm a little off-put by Julie Christie winning Best Actress, not because I don't think she deserves it (from what I've heard of her performance in that movie it's divine, and if Sarah Polley was behind it I'm not surprised) but because one of my favorite parts of the Oscars is when a young actress who's never won anything this big before pulls out a win, gets up on stage and promptly loses her shit. I love it when they get up there and start bawling and ramble incoherently, because they look exactly how a first-time Oscar winner should look, freaked and delighted and confused and elated. And if we do get an Oscar telecast, Daniel Day-Lewis is going to get up there and be calm and eloquent, and Javier Bardem is going to get up there and be witty and classy, and that leaves the best actress and supporting actress categories for any sort of giddy spastic reaction. The favorites in the supporting category at this point are Cate Blanchett (who's won before and isn't bound to freak) and Ruby Dee (who'll give some great classy speech that will kick ass, but she'll be calm and amazing and thank Ossie and that'll be the crying bit), with Amy Ryan the probable dark horse in that category. The best chances of a good freakout are in the Best Actress category, because Julie Christie's real competition in that category is Marion Cotillard (who was freakin' brilliant) and Ellen Page (I know the Oscars usually shy away from comedies, but that was one of the best performances of the year bar none and hey, this might be the category where we get an upset if we get any at all). Laura Linney got the just-be-glad-you're-nominated nomination, and Cate Blanchett's got a better chance in the supporting category and everybody knows it.

Ahem. Yes, I rambled. Sue me. :)

Speaking of Juno ...

My reaction -- AWESOME. A little too slangy for its own good in the beginning, but once it started to even out it was perfect. I have a feeling I'm going to end up adding that to my list of things I can write for Yuletide next year.

My mom's reaction -- Laughed hysterically for the first half of the movie up until it started getting more serious. I think she may have been crying towards the end when Juno was crying, but I didn't look. Favorite line ... the one about the Smirnoff Ices, which mde her giggle and poke me because that's practically the only alcohol the two of us like.

My great-aunt's reaction -- Very cute. Also, that guy (Jason Bateman) was an ass. Seriously, she could not stop saying that.

Oh, and my mom got us in with a bunch of gift certificates she got for Christmas, and then gave me a ten-dollar one she had left over when we left. Woohoo! (I may end up saving it for a while because the theater it's for is kind of lame and isn't showing anything right now I want to see other than Juno and Cloverfield, which I'm not all that keen to attempt to see again on the big screen.)

Lately whenever I have the money to go to Target I end up in the YA fiction aisle, because they haven't had anything in the adult section that's caught my eye in months now and as long as I steer clear of the wee chick lit section I can usually find something I'm interested in. Apparently my brain has downshifted due to my writer's block into stuff I haven't read all that often in years. And last time I picked up The Lightning Thief and loved it a lot, so now I think I'm going to have to go tomorrow and pick up The Sea of Monsters.

(I was thinking about buying Twilight because I never finished reading it when I took it out of the library a few weeks back, but then I remembered that for some reason the fact that the Gaspard/Emily non-casting wankfest irritated me so much I couldn't finish reading because I like them both and I *still* couldn't picture either one of them in those roles.

Well, that, and Bella grated on my last damn nerve. I've mentioned how much I hate most teenage girls, right?)

The current SPN mini-wank makes me feel so out of it, because it's been so long since I've finished fic and just thinking about trying to write gives me a headache. *sigh*

[livejournal.com profile] minisinoo has several nice long post about Twilight a little while ago, and it's certainly inspired me to never, ever pick up the book, because it's full of things I dislike in fiction. She started by looking at the Native Americans aspects of the book, but branched out and it might help you decide either way!

was the wank because gaspard wasn't cast as edward and robert pattinson was? aaaand that emily browning wasn't bella and kristen stewart is?

because as much as i like gaspard, i will only be seeing the movie once its in rental places and thats because i reallyreally love kristen stewart for...some reason. i dont really know why. cause shes pretty? *shrugs*

bella drove me nuts too. if edward treated me how he treats her? fuck that, man. i would dump him.

Yup, that's the one. Every other day it seems there's a secret on Fandom Secrets about how, woe, I'll hate the movie becuase they weren't cast or oh, shut the hell up, they were never going to be cast anyway. And I know they were supposedly who Stephenie Meyer based the characters on, but I kinda want to grab all of the whiners who are pissed they weren't hired and be all, "Do you have ANY idea how Hollywood works? 'Cause just because she pictured them as Edward and Bella doesn''t mean they either wanted to play them or were the best actors for the roles." JESUS.

if edward treated me how he treats her? fuck that, man. i would dump him.

I know, right? I'm pretty much spoiled for the entire book series and if it's going to be three whole books of annoying levels of codependence it's not even worth it.

plus stephanie meyer said that gaspard was too old for the role of edward now. she said she didn't want anyone over 21. and her webpage has her being very thrilled with the casting.

Okay, this is totally out of left field, but you're the person I figure would be most likely to know this.

A few years ago, when there was a lot of Day After Tomorrow fic, I *swear* there was a Saved By The Bell fic. I have a friend I must show it to but I can't find it. Any ideas where it might be?

*nods* I so agree. Bella is so annoying, I only read the first book for Edward. XD
