Why I'm Voting For Obama, by Bridget G.

I agree with all of that. *waves hands at post happily*

And you know, I keep dwelling on the lack of experience thing, and I believe Obama is a guy for whom it might actually work. I believe that that man will admit he doesn't have all the answers, that he might be wrong, that he needs to ask for help or be educated on a decision before he makes it. That's why I like the guy, and that's why I'll be voting for him ... in three goddamn months, after most of the rest of you have voted.

But I want to vote now! *whines*

oh my that post doesn't make me just want to vote for the man, it makes me want to MARRY HIM.

And I don't want to get married. EVER.

I don't really buy the lack of experience argument. For one thing, Obama served in the Illinois legislature before running for Senate, and he was a community organizer on the South Side of Chicago, so it's not like he hasn't been involved in politics in one way or another for most of his adult life. Plus, last time we had John Kerry, one of the MOST politically experienced people in the country today, and he couldn't beat Bush. So experience ends up having very little to do with how the American people will vote. Besides which, both Hillary and Obama pale in comparison re: experience to McCain, so it's pretty much a moot point to make.

...not that I have opinions about it or anything :P I just think it's a stupid reason to base a vote on. Hillary might have more technical political experience, but that doesn't mean much to me when most of what she's done in the political realm are things I don't approve of.

Amen to all of that. And I agree it's a dumb reason to disregard anyone. In general, though, Obama does always give me the impression he's willing to listen and learn, and God knows those are two things the current president seems almost physically incapable of doing.

first, i love your icon.

second, when people say that he has little experience i first think - well, what kind of experience can you get to prepare you for being the President of an entire country? There's not really a job like that out there. Then I think about all the people in history who have brought about social change - how much experience did they have? I care less about experience and more about determination.

Yeah, it's not about experience in my mind. I suppose there's an argument to be made for someone being Vice President as being more experienced running a country, but it's not like VPs have always made good presidents. Or hardly ever, actually. People might want to claim that Hillary has more presidential "experience" on her TEAM... and that's because you're not voting for her, you're voting for the Clintons. We've already had that package deal, and it didn't go that well the first time.

You know, every time they say "lack of experience" I think "someone who hasn't been entirely corrupted by the political process yet". Because constant compromise kind of makes the soul wilt and if that hasn't happened to Barack Obama yet, we're all better off for it.

Experience in federal government does count, because a shocking (or not) amount of lawmaking can be about who you know and who likes you and what strings you know to pull, and Obama just doesn't have a lot of that. That said, he is good at making coalitions and he doesn't inspire the kind of seething irrational hatred that Clinton and her husband do. In their case, "experience" can also translate to "baggage"- it's a double-edged sword. I worry about the electability of both candidates, so in the end it's got to come down to policy for me. I like Obama's overall philosophy better, but Clinton better on some fine points of immigration policy. Oh hell, what do I know.

Hee hee on the utterly useless PA primaries. Hey, maybe the race will be so close PA will count, right? Did I mention I used to live in NJ before its primaries got moved? *headdesk*

As a general rule, I'm more in support of Clinton at the moment. (However, if Obama gets the vote, I'm not gonna complain.) But that article is DEFINITELY interesting, and makes me more confident in the validity of both candidates. Thanks for sharing!

I'm in the same boat, I think.

I love both candidates (though I'm still bummed that Kucinich dropped out JUST as I finished reading all of his plans and fell in love), so I'll be happy either way.

I can understand people being put off by a lack of experience - but what do they WANT? The man had a life before he became a politician, and there's more to a candidate than their voting history.

On the flip-side, I've seen people saying "I don't want to see 20+ years of BUSH-CLINTON-BUSH-CLINTON in the White House." with nothing else to back it up. Um. Okayyyy..?

Yeah, that last one gets on my nerves a little. I mean, I get where the sentiment is coming from, and yet at the same time if Hillary is the best candidate for the position, what does it matter?

I have my problems with Hillary, but at the same time I'd be happy voting for either one. I certainly like both of them far more than I do any of the Republican candidates.

It would be interesting to see him run with Hillary as his VP.

So long as they run together, I'll be happy, no matter which of them wears the Daddy Pants. *fingers crossed*

What better way to shut up the people who whine about the lack of experience than putting the Clintons RIGHT THERE in his corner, right?

People can say what they want about the Clintons; we didn't have the rampant stupidity W has brought us while they were running things.

Careful how you word it or someone we know will be shipping them. The last thing the world needs is Bill/Hillary/Barrack (in any combination) porn. LOL

I don't know about anybody else, but I don't want Barack/Hillary porn. I want Barack/me porn.

... er, wait, we were in "serious political discussion" mode, right? *is VRY SRS*

Actually, with you; I'd expect Bill/Barack before Hillary/Barack. I know how you like your slash. LOL

Oh, Right. *stops smiling immediately*
