I only read TWoP anymore for the Bravo reality recaps (so it's not like I need to) and the ATWT forum (since I've been waiting for the kissing ban and the moronic green-card marriage to die before I go back to watching).

I just read about the Noah/Ameera kiss in the previews.

Well.

Two things I have accomplished in the last ten minutes:

1. Stifling any urge I might have to go back to TWoP ever.
2. Emailing P&G and CBS to tell them I'm not watching their shows or buying their products until further notice.

Fuck that noise. I'm going to go watch that video of Christian and Olli macking on one another again.

I really wonder whether any of them have KNOWN any gay men. Because while soap operas tend to be unrealistic, they tend toward that unrealism by being OVERLY sexed-up, no? Which means we should be treated to some REALLY HOT VISUALS.

I can't decide what's worse -- ATWT, who has a gay couple but doesn't seem to watch to show the icky boykissing, or Bold and the Beautiful, which is set in the fashion industry and yet to my recollection has almost never had a gay male character, if ever. (Sometimes I'll catch part of it if I run up to my parents' house for lunch because my mom watches on her lunch break, and I'm always tempted to call the producers and say, "I'm sorry, have you seen Project Runway? Read a fashion magazine? Know any male designers? Come ON.")

Did you catch that video I posted the other day of the gay boys from the German soap? That storyline is SO MUCH BETTER. Like, light-years better. Plus, they let them kiss on TV. And yet German society hasn't descended into chaos yet. Shocker!

I think minotaurs had posted it a little while ago; it's one of those things that appears to be making the rounds. I giggle thinking that this is in GERMANY of all places, where we like to think people scowl all the time! And do nothing but eat schnitzel and drink beer! Okay. If I have this right, there are two male characters on this programme who are allegedly gay but are never shown expressing physical attraction to each other because Mrs Bush would have a conniption fit or something? And now they've shown one of them kissing, or being kissed by, a female character?

Luke is gay. Then he met Noah, who was new to town and claimed to be straight, except for the part where he was attracted to Luke. Noah was dating one of Luke's friends but kept having hot flirtatious moments with Luke (including one where he succumbed and kissed Luke, but called it all a joke later). After a while, he admitted he had a thing for Luke, and they kissed again, during which Noah's homophobic father walked in on them.

After Noah's dad tried to kill Luke, the two of them officially started dating. They haven't kissed since. That was something like six or seven months ago. They were going to kiss under the mistletoe at Christmas -- the camera panned away from them. On the Valentine's Day episode, every other couple got to kiss -- they got to hug. At some point right after they kissed, the AFA went after the show and threatened to boycott if they didn't get rid of both characters because gay people are just icky and gross and, like, fuck in front of children or something, so (from the bullshit answers CBS has been giving since then) Proctor and Gamble (who's involved in the production) has apparently issued a kissing ban so that they've been dating for months without kissing on camera.

Cue Ameera, an Iraqi girl Noah's military father met years ago when he was over there. Somehow she managed to get into the country at a time when Iraqis don't exactly have the easiest time with it at ALL, met Noah, said that, "Oh, no, your wonderful father could not possibly be a homophobic jackass who tried to kill your boyfriend! He was nice to me in a war zone, so that must not be true!", spouted a bunch of "Back in Iraq ..." anecdotes that sounded a lot like bastardized "In Soviet Russia ..." jokes, committed some terrible acting, and got into a green-card marriage with Noah.

And now Noah, who hasn't been allowed to kiss his boyfriend he loves for months, is going to kiss the fake wife he's defrauding the government with. (Admittedly, for some bogus movie they're doing which is all just bullshit anyway, but after months without Luke and Noah to do it ... ARGH.)

In summation: ASSHATS.

Thank you for the explanation. I feel your pain...though I'm not surprised. Moral cowardice is as common in the telly industry now as it was in the sixties, when Bill Shatner and Nichelle Nichols weren't allowed actually to be shown kissing in Star Trek, in case it upset viewers in the south. (The camera was blocked by one of their heads, according to Shatner, and their lips never actually met.)

We got past that, and we'll get past this. But it's taking its time. :(

Wow, that's a lack of basic understanding so great that it becomes actively offensive. I remember cheering when they had the balls to show a m/m kiss for the first time in daytime ever, but they lose that when they utterly fail to stick to their guns in any way whatsoever.

I'm totally googling "gay German porn" now, btw.
