I hereby propose that Jon Favreau be allowed to go to Brett Ratner's house, ring the doorbell, wait until he answers, and then kick him full-on in the nutsack.

Also, I now remember why I never warn other people in movie theaters that there's something after the credits -- they never fucking listen. Oh, well. Their loss. :)

EDIT: Oh, and everybody needs to read Your Friends Are Not Watching the Same Show You Are (And That's Okay). So much stupid wank would be averted if more people would remember that just because you can't see subtext doesn't mean other people shouldn't, or that if you don't see the misogyny it's not there, or that ... well, you get the idea.

YES! And he gets to bring Terrence Howard and Robert Downey Jr. with him to do it. Have you seen their Unscripted bit for Moviephone? They WIN at everything.

And Gwyneth Paltrow. too. For two hours there I didn't think she was a pretentious twit! I was impressed.

Yes! Wasn't she shockingly good in it?

Yeah, I've long since given up discussing shows like Lost or Battlestar Galactica with friends who also watch them, because of the 'stupid wank' and examples like in that article.

It's just pointless, we are definitely Watching Different Shows.

I...recognize people from my friendslist in that article. o_o;

Thanks so much for that link! It's been clear from day one that my friends and I don't watch the same version of SPN, because I totally watch the "Dean kicks ass and can do no wrong" show and they watch...something else.

the best part about this article is watching the reactions. It's cracking me up how many people are going "YES! this is what people need to stop doing to me, just because I love X and they don't and they're stupid about it!" (warning: phrasing may vary *G*) Just...heh. Good show, now go back and read the article again people.

But yes, *SO* true. It'd be nice to read discussions about 'shipping/slashing pairings without seeing little digs at the intelligence of people who don't share those pairings. Also be nice to win the lottery, have someone suspiciously Jensen-esque show up in my bed with a strategically placed bow, and wake up to find the election business in the US over and all happy times. Alas...*G*

Maybe if they read it enough *G*

I am dying to see this movie!

Just tell me... is it safe for a 9 y/o? She watches some of the SPN eps with me so she doesn't scare (or scar) easily lol.

I... think so? I don't think there's anything in it that's worse than what's been in SPN. There's an implied/threatened torture scene, a lot of deaths, and blatant sexuality (if no actual nekkid sex).

Some guy sitting next to me had brought his son, who looked to be about 9-10, and he seemed all right with it.

SAMUEL L. JACKSON FUCK YEAH. They didn't even have to make him into a character. He could have shown up as himself and gone all, "Samuel L. does not approve, motherfucker" and it still would have been badass.

But Nick goddamned Fury. That was brilliance.

I read somewhere that there was some run of the series where the Nick Fury character was actually re-envisioned to be based on SLJ, with his permission and wholehearted motherfucking approval? Which just makes it all the more awesome.

(Yeah, watch me be totally vague. My knowledge of comics is extremely erratic.)

In the mainstream/616 universe Marvel comics, he was/is an old white guy. In the Ultimate comics, which was a re-boot of mainstream/616 Marvel comics where he was a young black guy (where Wolverine was a young tall guy who looked just like Hugh Jackman,) who gradually started to look more and more like Samuel L. Jackson.

In the showing I was in, it was me and a bunch of fanboys who waited behind to see the scene. And when he introduced himself as Nick Fury, every single person in that theater either shouted, "FUCK, YEAH," or, "HOLY SHIT," or, "OH MY GOD." It was awesome. :)

So much stupid wank would be averted if more people would remember that just because you can't see subtext doesn't mean other people shouldn't, or that if you don't see the misogyny it's not there, or that ...

...or that subtext usually does not equal secret canon? (If John and Rodney ever come out on screen, I'll be flailing right along with the shippers, but until then, it's cute, not canon.) Or that just because one person sees sexism, doesn't necessarily mean it's there? (I'd cite the crazy woman who thinks that Wash rapes Zoe and that Joss rapes his wife, but that would be rather like dragging the Nazis into an argument.) I can't help noticing that only the stupid people on one side of the arguments generally get called out (at least from what I've seen), while the stupid people on the other side are often tolerated or at least ignored. Stupid is stupid.

*is on a campaign against all stupid people everywhere, on the grounds that they make all sides look stupid, and also really give me a headache*
