Aw, just once, can't you go to Scranton? Erie, Philly, Bethlehem ... Come on.

Maybe it just comes from watching too many episodes of Trauma: Life In The ER, but I have a really hard time believing any injury could be bad enough to make a doctor scream like that.

"Squirt your holy water in both ends?" *chokesplorfles*

Sam's looking particularly cute tonight. And okay, desperate, but also very cute.

"You done?"
"Think so."
"Please go away."
"Gotcha." -- *snickers*

BLARGH. GYAH. PLEASE NEVER TO BE SAYING MAGGOTS AGAIN, ACK ACK ACK. (Yes, I know they're going to show them later but EW EW EW EW.)

HA! Sam purposely grossing out Dean is killing me. Just ... the look on his face ... bwahahahaha!

Dean: "Baby, I can't stay mad at you."
Me: *brain short-circuits*

EW. MAGGOTS AND HEART AND THAT SQUISHY-SNAPPY SOUND FROM CRACKING THE STERNUM. EWWWWW.

Heh. Not the Christmas card type? Johnny Walker Blue? Who are they going to see, a new hunter or John?

Aw, poor desperate Sammy.

ARGH. I swear, those boys are going to be the fucking death of me.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! It's the boss from 21 Jump Street! Oh, please be a new recurring character! Please?

"I've got this bottle of scotch and ... I don't know, is this considered good?" HEE!

No, seriously, can Rufus be a new recurring character? I like him.

That file better be fucking interesting, yo.

Please don't get caught, Sammy. Oh, please tell me that at least some of the sharp angry kickass Sammy from all those Tuesdays and Wednesdays is still there.

EW EW MAGGOTS EW. *cringes*

Okay, you know how when I saw the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake, I couldn't get the song "Bits and Pieces" out of my head? Guess what's stuck there again? *headsmack*

Okay, that neck thing was really fucking gross.

... oh, goody, sexual molestation. This is her backstory? I hate this. Especially in the same episode with a woman trapped in a basement, especially after reading a week's worth of articles about the fucking sicko in Austria. BAD TIMING. Wait, so the hell does she have to steal if she's so goddamn rich? You know, before that damn scene I liked Bela. I didn't like what they were doing with her, but I liked her. Congratulations, show! You just made me do a complete one-eighty on a character I had until now not hated!

If this were any other show, or any other episode, I'd be making Death Becomes Her jokes.

Oh, Sammy, no. NOT THIS. This is not an attractive way to go through life. And I mean that physically, mentally, and emotionally.

See, I haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate this. Dean's right, she should have just TOLD THEM. She could have told them about the deal, she could have told them about her past, she could have told them everything, and she didn't, and if I hate it when characters do this in books I sure as hell hate it in my favorite show. I just ... I haaaaaate this. HAAAATE. It doesn't make me feel sorry for her, it doesn't make me want to give her a hug or whatever it is I feel like it was supposed to draw out of me. I keep thinking of the characters who also dealt with the crossroads demon ... Robert Johnson, the professor, the man with the wife, Dean. They've all done or did something good with their lives before they got taken. What has Bela done with her ten years?

I know this didn't come after all of the complaints about misogyny, but seriously. SERIOUSLY.

DO NOT WANT.

yeah...

The preview KILLED me. Oh, sobbing Sam. *cuddles him*

You know, I might have liked the backstory if she had taken the opportunity -- and she had several of them, God knows -- to tell them. Okay, fine, she's not a warrior. But the Winchesters are, they have the Colt, and they have a reason to go after Lilith, too. If she had just showed up one day and said, "I will pay you to get rid of her, here is what I know, there is what you know, now go get 'em, tiger!", she could have spent the entire season toying with them, being all playful, being smart, and STILL have worked towards defeating Lilith.

All of the things she's done this season -- ALL of them -- have been detrimental to her goal, if her goal is to destroy Lilith and get out of her deal. She's got resources and information the Winchesters don't but the same goal in the end. Everything she's done up until this point now makes her look stupid. I think that's why I hate it -- because while I didn't like what they were doing with her before this episode, I didn't think she was functionally retarded.

On the plus side, I knew Dean was going to do something to screw her out of the show, but I was afraid it was going to make him look bad. Guess I didn't have to worry about that. *headdesk*

maybe she was told if she tried to break HER deal she died? its the only thing that makes any sense here, and if they'd let her SAY that instead of doing the sobbing tears shit i'd have appreciated her desperation and cold blooded killing attempt a hell of a lot more as the only choice she had, instead of her jsut being a selfish spoiled bitch whose daddy screwed with her...so it fucked her up, ok...that's her excuse for fucking everyone one else in the world up that she's hurt by stealing and selling toxic magic items? i was so not impressed with that...her breaking down into a sobbing jellyfish...why didn't she use the damn colt to try to take lilith out herself...

well...and damn it... that preview...i'm still in shock here...damn it...i mean...its what i expected, feared, dreaded, but...to show that? SHOW that? there's gotta be a catch, a trick..something... gotta be ...gotta..

this episode...its like..dean draws the line here...he'd rather go to hell and suffer eternal torment and at least get a chance to try to fight off becoming a demon, than become a living monster of his own free will...or let sam die...

dean...

oh dean...

i wanna cry...

There's a simple solution for that, though. Dean and Sam break Bela's deal, which breaks Dean's. Then they're not breaking their deal, just hers. Their broken deal is just a side effect.

What am I thinking, though? Oh, I'm sorry, was I thinking? Yeah, I have a problem with that sometimes.

ok i am tired and wiped out emo and all that but i don't get how sam and dean can break bela's deal for her without her breaking it by telling them about it so that they can break it for her...uhm...if that's her catch, she'd trip it, and come to think of it, so would dean by telling sam about his deal if sam manages to find a way to break it, because dean told him...um...wouldnt that mean dean was trying to weasle out too and sam drops dead? obviously his attempts haven't panned out...or there'd be one winchester now, not two i think...that whole you can't try to break it thing seems weird...all the other folks tried to run and hide it seems...

I'm sure there's a way to do it without one or the other of them breaking that loophole. I'm just as tired as you are, I imagine, so the details would have to be worked out, but that loophole - "You can't get yourself out of the deal" - leaves them both open to get each other out of their deals.

See, I called the molestation angle from waaaaaay back in "Red Sky at Morning". Dean asked her something like "Oh yeah, Bela, who'd you kill?" and she got this momentary freaked-out panicky look on her face -- Bela, who'd been stone-cold professional up 'til then.

Still, the whole bit there... yeah. A little over the top. And the timing on the people-in-the-basement thing was kinda bad. But c'mon, they filmed this weeks ago.

I admit I didn't see the deal bit coming, and it does seem like a little bit of a cop-out. But how else are they going to get Lillith's name into Winchester hands? (Not that it HELPS them all that much, but...)

(And I'm clearly showing my age by saying "Hey, Billy Drago! It's John Bly from Adventures of Brisco County Jr.!" *grin* )

Yeah, the "bad timing" comment was less of a snipe at the writers and more of an "... ouch" comment.

But how else are they going to get Lillith's name into Winchester hands? (Not that it HELPS them all that much, but...)

Considering they've apparently been torturing demons for information on who holds the deal, I doubt it would take much longer for them to get the information.

The thing is, they could have had this information MONTHS ago, when it would have helped all three of them. The only bit of information they've ever gotten from Bela was about Lilith's hold on the deal and if she had told them that earlier in the season they would at least have had a chance by now.

ARGH. I swear, those boys are going to be the fucking death of me.

Yup. I'm thinking about preparing a will before next week, just in case the boys do manage to do just that.

The whole Bela experience I think got royally screwed by the strike and the backstory and everything that's happened and what we found out tonight feels like a qwik-patch hastily put on last minute. Which is really why I'm trying not to let it affect me too much. I think had Kripke had the time he would've done more with Bela other than to have her as a plot device. If we had those extra episodes, she just may have told them. But if she had, we wouldn't have had all the manly emo!angst!pain.

Can I just say how glad I am Dean didn't kiss her? For a millisecond I was almost afraid that the show might go there and I don't think I would've ever been able to recover.

If the boys ever went to Scranton, I want a SPN/Office fic. It would be an epic battle of the tall, dark and floppy haired, lol! And then we'd have a SPAM pairing, and Dwight would try to take on Dean with his training and Oscar would try to flirt with the two (you know, be overtly gay) and Kelly would combust. And I think Michael would take advantage of all the confusion and lock Ryan in his office with him, to you know "protect" him. The End. :OD

Yeah, I think a lot of the Bela storyline got fucked over by the strike. Of course, that doesn't change the fact that the molestation past irritates the piss out of me.

True. On the other hand, maybe Kripke was planning on having another six or seven episodes to play with this season prior to the writer's strike.

From: [identity profile] apocalypsos.livejournal.com
Yeah, I figure the writers chopped a lot off the storyline because of the writer's strike. There's just so much about the molestation storyline that feels pasted on, just makes her behavior look worse (explainable, but worse), and offends me as a woman. I mean, they just spent the entire season presenting a rape victim as the Lying Selfish Bitch Who Lies, which may have been a by-product of the writer's strike screwing up their storyline but then again, with these writers ... *shrugs*

Don't forget Pittsburgh (Bobby's "extremely lame vaction") in DaLD. I'm from Erie, so I was full of squee. Your time will come!

I thought the SAME thing! Especially when she said she's hard to shock and was therefore prepared for something extreme.

Sam's looking particularly cute tonight. And okay, desperate, but also very cute.

Yeah. I'm almost afraid what they're going to do to Rufus if and when they bring him back -- turn out to be evil or killed violently? Let's start taking bets now. We know damn well by now it's going to be one or the other. Hey, maybe it'll be both!

It doesn't make me feel sorry for her, it doesn't make me want to give her a hug or whatever it is I feel like it was supposed to draw out of me.

I seem to remember Kripke saying that her past was not meant to make you feel sorry for her. He didn't want the viewer to like her, and wanted the boys to one up her... I think maybe some of the writers missed his memo. Is he just not in the writers' room at all anymore?

Date: 2008-05-09 05:04 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] apocalypsos.livejournal.com
Yeah, the part where he said he didn't want the viewer to like her is particularly distastely if this wasn't a plot point they just tacked on because of the writers' strike. If they planned this out months ago, he was saying it about a female character who rightfully (if unconventionally) defended herself against rape.

If her backstory is not meant to make us feel sorry for her, is supposed to make us dislike her, then what does that say about Kripke and company's attitude towards violence towards women? (Not that we haven't had an abundance of evidence to that over the past few seasons, but still.)
