Ellen Ripley. In Alien she’s a competent woman unexpectedly plunged into a nightmare, who rises above her terror; in Aliens, she not only faces the monster a second time, but manages to get past the distrust of androids caused by Ash’s betrayal and comes to appreciate Bishop.
