What happens in a high school graduation ceremony after they give out the diplomas? I know it's one of the last things they do but I can't remember what the hell they did at mine and I can't find an online program for one to use as a cheat sheet.

You move the tassel on your hat, get congratulated one last time, and then you're presented as the class of whatever. Cue hat toss.

Basically, what [personal profile] azzinita said. Then, everyone just takes off running in opposite directions, from what I remember seeing. (When I was left on the ground after being shoved, picking silly string off of me, and wondering where my graduation cap went, since someone stole it.)

I almost mentioned that they line people up and march them around the track, but that might have just been my school. Because of bomb threats.

No worries. Don't ask me which side of the hat you move the tassel to, though. >.>

We didn't wear hats and gowns (private school), so no tassle - but we *did* sing the Alma Mater after everyone was graduated.

Some schools also have a "recessional", the opposite of the procession to the stage (if they had one to begin with, I imagine many schools with large classes just start the ceremony with everyone already seated). And though sometimes they still play "Pomp and Circumstance", it's usually a lot more relaxed than the processional... more of a stroll or a run than a march, really. :)

*snickers*

Aw, why you'd have to go and mention Zelda? Now I want to stop writing and go play my NES ROM. :(

Mine ended after they handed out the diplomas. They were like, congratulations, class of 2008 and then we threw our hats. All the speeches and stuff are before the diplomas are given out.

My high school, everyone crossed the stage to get their diplomas, then we all gathered at the side of the gym where the ceremony was held. Then there was a retrospective-type slide show, where everyone had donated pictures from all their school years together.

I'm a little late on this, but at my graduation we switched our tassles, threw hats and stood on our chairs to sing the graduation song our class picked (Whitesnake, Here I go again or whatever the title is). After the song we marched out as we came in, led by the class president.

I've been to a lot of graduations, including my own and frankly, I have no clue.
