I love that man. And not just because his set design is obviously some sort of signal that he's secretly Zeus the Smiling Muslim Anti-Christ.

*rewatches*

Oh, John McCain can't do that. (He can, however, choose Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate. On one hand ... huh. On the other hand, considering she's even worse on the experience front than Obama -- and McCain just looooves knocking Obama on that count -- it rings of "Oh, hey, you have a vagina, don't you? Let's hook up!".)

I was so disappointed (or, well, or not?) the moment I realized it wasn't Michael Palin. How awesome would a Python White House be?

That's EXACTLY what it is.

Someone on his campaign said 'Oh, pick a female running mate. All those women who were supporting Hillary Clinton will flock to us because they are too stupid to realize that Palin doesn't support women's rights and will vote for us!'

While completely forgetting that a good chunk of their regular base won't vote when there's a woman on the ballot. HELLO.

And the fact that she's even more right wing than McCain, socially.

You know, at least with Romney, as much as I hate him, I didn't look at him and think, "Oh, God, McCain, don't die, your VP doesn't even know enough to do THEIR job, never mind YOURS!"

I mean, hell, two years as governor? Come ON.

DKos is reporting that a month ago, she said she didn't know what the VP did.

Being a former PA resident, I think I could have lived with Tom Ridge.

But he's pro-choice and that did him in.

I've heard some people saying that Obama's speech last night was so good that he has the race locked up. What a dangerous thought! Remember the tortoise and the hare, folks? And this is a tight race, so it isn't even comparable.

Notes:

RE: The Set, which the media keeps saying looks like the Obamacropolis where all shall bow down before The Chosen One.

It's not a temple. It's a faux White House. Which happens to be based on classical Greek architecture. So, yeah. There's little columns off to the side, but if you just have Obama's head in frame, it's all windows, suspiciously like those in back of the WH where all those press conferences are held. I'm just sayin' well done, set designer!

Re: The Speech

Kick ass.

Re: Gov. Palin

*HEADDESK* That's all.

I know, right? Took me a few minutes to figure that one, but only because I was too busy watching the damn speech.

Whoever chose the music for the Democratic convention needs to be fired. With a couple exceptions (Bruce Springsteen, etc.), the music was horrible for the context!

Michelle Obama spoke, and then they played Stevie Wonder's "Isn't She Lovely?" I like Stevie Wonder, and Michelle Obama is lovely. But bad choice. How about something more empowered or politically aware? In general, every time I watched the convention, they were playing disco or some other dated ('70s/'80s) music. And I like that music. But again, bad choice. Listening to "We Are Family" doesn't make me feel very progressive or like Obama/Biden will change the country.

Then, after Obama's speech, they switched to an orchestral movie score track. Again, I like movie scores, but again, it was a bad choice. The thing about movie scores is that they invoke mood. So, for every rousing theme, you also have more somber musical themes or more menacing musical themes. (Put another way, if you choose music from, say, Star Wars, let it be the main theme and not the "Imperial March" or even "Luke and Leia.") And so, we have Obama's glorious speech ending with music that quickly turns tense and menacing. Not good.

I was wondering if they didn't choose the orchestral score for a particular reason - because if I'm not mistaken, at least some of the pieces played were from the movie Independence Day...

Apparently the music from right after his speech was from Remember the Titans. The choice might have been deliberate, but they should have edited out the tense, menacing sections of the score track they used.

There is one strength this woman has that no one should underestimate. She is very attractive. I don't want to make judgments about the American voter or people in general, but being pretty helps a lot when you're on TV.

I guess we're lucky that Obama is also kind of pretty, though a bit on the thin side.

I see this — "She and her husband Todd Palin, have five children. The latest, a baby, was born with Down syndrome." — and I think, does she have time to be vice president?? Surely five children including a baby with Down syndrome is a full-time job for both parents!

it rings of "Oh, hey, you have a vagina, don't you? Let's hook up!".)

It totally does.

Coming from someone who lived in Alaska the last 2 years, I do have to say, I've got a good bit of respect for Palin. She's got a forceful personality, and she has no problems being blunt and upfront about what she thinks and what she's going to do about a situation. She's done good things in the last two years in Alaska.

I dont agree with most of her policies, but Im really very very thrilled for her.

Wow. That speech was awesome. I so want to believe he can make all those changes as well. I really hope he gets the chance to try.
