At the insistence of the McCain campaign, the Oct. 2 debate between the Republican nominee for vice president, Gov. Sarah Palin, and her Democratic rival, Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr., will have shorter question-and-answer segments than those for the presidential nominees, the advisers said. There will also be much less opportunity for free-wheeling, direct exchanges between the running mates.

McCain advisers said they had been concerned that a loose format could leave Ms. Palin, a relatively inexperienced debater, at a disadvantage and largely on the defensive.

I agree with a few of the comments I saw in that post -- if anybody had suggested that they dumb down the debates for Hillary Clinton, she most likely would have kneed someone in the kidney before successfully arguing in great detail why that kidney needed to be bruised for the good of the American people.

::headdesk:: On the bright side, I really do think that Biden's going to wipe the floor with her, no matter what format they use. I'm actually going to *watch* that debate, and I dislike the debates usually.

Yeah, I think the great thing about the line, "Advisers to Mr. Biden say they were comfortable with either format," is that you can almost hear the unspoken, "Unlike Mrs. Palin, who clearly is not."
