I love him, I really do. Not only does he make a concise intelligent argument as to why he'll be voting for Obama, but he also manages to make a point about the Muslim comments that maybe might knock some sense into a few Republicans. (Well, if we're lucky.)

The photo he's talking about is this, from here:

Jeez, Powell, way to make me tear up.

also, you know that people are going to point the finger and say "yeah, it's because they're both black." and my rage-o-meter is going to explode.

"yeah, it's because they're both black."

Oh, they're already saying that. Which ... ugh. Yes, that's the only possible reason he could be endorsing Obama. *eye roll*

I'm not pleasantly surprised by his endorsement of Obama, so much as by the criticism that he gives to his own party for the way it's been talking lately. Fabulous smackdown, Mr. Powell. Fabulous smackdown.

It's been AAAAAAGES since I was moved by anything political, but this actually made me tear up. Bravo, Mr. Powell.

Very powerful. And at last, a voice of common sense in this whole shebang.

That picture is going to haunt me forever. Thanks for sharing it.

That's awesome. And I'm so glad someone has finally stood up and said, in response to all this 'Obama's a Muslim' crap - 'no, he's not, but more importantly, why the fuck would that matter anyway?' Kudos to Colin Powell, major kudos.

Powell absolutely made me cry. He's someone I've always thought of as being unequivocally a good person, and it's nice to see him demonstrate once again why that's the case.

I cried a little (Fourteen in NJ during 9/11 oh god, that's too close to home), but oh, how vindicating it felt to hear him talking about how all towns have values, and about the narrowness of the GOP approach. Because I don't like being told I might as well be amoral- or worse yet, completely insignificant- because of my geography, but that's pretty much the feeling Palin and her ilk like spreading. Well ha ha, my vote counts the same as their votes, and that's why I love this country.

Someone I know summed up Colin Powell like this, which I pretty much agree with.

Say that I have a job in a factory somewhere and the boss calls me into his office one day and says he wants me to kill a couple of the guys on the line. To make matters worse, I know the guys he wants me to kill are sleeping with the boss's wife. But he's the boss so I have to follow orders.

At that point...well, you know, I'd probably quit my job. Because quitting your job is a lot more acceptable than killing innocent people. If ordinary Americans are morally conscious enough to comprehend this principle, then one would think the fucking Secretary of State could comprehend it too.
