So I was talking to Jess last night about Breaking Dawn, which she's halfway through (Jacob just found out about Bella being pregnant). She was pretty enthusiastic about the first three books, but she's absolutely loathing this one. She hates the way it's set up with the POV switch in the middle, and she can't stand Bella anymore at ALL. And when I told her that the paternity question never gets answered, she had pretty much the same annoyed response I did, not surprising since she seems to like Jacob and the werewolves more than Edward and the vampires.

She doesn't have very high hopes for the ending of the book, either. I've said repeatedly how much I loathed it, and I think she finally agrees with me whole-heartedly on that. She hasn't brought the book to work the past few days, which says a lot since she breezed through the first three books and practically devoured them while at work. And we were busier at work when she was reading those. If I could get away with reading "The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers" last night, she could have gotten away with finishing the book there.

Oh, and she doesn't remember the time right after the book came out where I mocked "Renesmee," so she doesn't remember me telling her about the whole storyline. So, yeah, when she gets to that things should get really interesting. Heh.

I think I need a theme song for The Grand Prize Winner. I was going through the mix CDs in my car (most of which are scratched beyond all reason, because I'm the sort of moron who treats her CDs like garbage) and I found one that had a bunch of songs that I'd used as theme songs for my other novels. Like, "Wild" by Poe is the theme song for Dead Men In Dark Suits, and "Passive" by A Perfect Circle is the theme song for The Monsters Of Moosic, so ... yeah, need a theme song.

I seriously have to go through my MP3 player and find something before it goes kerflooey. If my laptop's on its last legs, my Zen is about five seconds away from a mini-nuclear explosion. The screen is almost shot. Damn it.

I'm so hungry. Somebody come to my house and make me a sandwich since I'm paralyzed from the knees down due to sleeping cat.

Tell Jess I feel her pain. I don't have hopes for the ending either.

By the end, I decided that i actually liked the change of POV during Bell'as pregnancy, simply because I saved from two hundred pages of Bella whining and crying and basically annoying me.

I didn't want to give her too much detail, or else I would have told her that it's like seventy pages where nothing happens and there's no payoff but a slapdash happy ending.

Urrggh. I hate that. Especially since I have to listen to the crap. I can't carry the book because it's mad heavy. The pain is horrendous.

Oh, Bella annoyed me from day fucking one with her bad attitude and lack of personality so I was thrilled to be out of her brain for a little while. Of course, it meant reading the Oh Poor Bella! Fawning And Worshipping Hour At The Cullen House from Jacob's POV, but I can't even imagine reading all of those pages from Bella's POV with added thinly veiled commentary about how Pregnancy Is Wonderful And Magical And You Should Never Ever Ever Abort Such a Miracle Even If It Breaks Your Spine And Eats Your Innards, You Selfish Selfish Whore.

Oh, man, I can't even imagine that ending in audio book form. I think I would have given up after the fifth hour of ZZZZZZZ.

Bella is uggh, I can't explain but the whining is worse. The how pregnancy thing is so painful. I have to hold the laughter in when on the train.

I can't remember where I read it (I think it may have been [livejournal.com profile] stoney321's recaps), but it struck exactly why the pregnancy scenes bugged the hell out of me -- it reads a lot like Smeyer was really underappreciated when she was pregnant, like she felt like nobody gave a damn about her, and so when she wrote Bella's pregnancy scenes everybody's falling all over themselves for her to the point of lying their heads at her feet or sitting on the floor and staring worshipfully at her. Like, NO. STOP THAT. Ugh.

It just feels like so much of Smeyer's personal life bleeds into the books and it sucks.

She didn't annoy me too badly in the first book because I was just able to remind myself, "teenage love and angst." But after that, I just wanted to smack her a lot and would just imagine the books as all about Alice/Jasper.

I kept trying to get past all the things that were bugging me about Bella, but she just kept DOING them. She had no hobbies, no extracurricular activities, no problems with her schoolwork, no particular urge to go anywhere specific for college or what she wanted to do when she got there. She didn't seem to like any of her so-called friends, she treated Charlie like an overgrown infant who couldn't feed himself without her around, she didn't even seem to think much of Renee even though her mom was supposed to be her best friend or whatever. I continually wondered why I was supposed to root for someone I mostly just wanted Edward to kill and get it over with.

Yeah, after a while I just stopped paying attention to what was happening and just started imagining what Emmett was doing somewhere else. Considering I had "Growing Up Cullen" Emmett in my head the whole time, it helped. :)
