Jan. 14th, 2004 11:41 pmI sincerely wish the media would quit it with the five thousand news stories about how upset the cast of 'Friends' is going to be when the series ends this year. Why would I want to know this, exactly? Am I expected to send a card or some flowers or a Strip-o-Gram or something? 'Cause trust me, consoling the cast of 'Friends' because NBC isn't financially desperate enough for another go-'round is not high on my to-do list.
See, 'Friends' is a prime example in my mind of what will turn me off a show that I once loved and watched obsessively. Every single annoying plot contrivance and cliche that I loathe and that disgust me a viewer happened to 'Friends'. For example ...
1. Stunt casting -- Winona Ryder! Brad Pitt! Reese Witherspoon! *yawn* Wake me up when Circus of the Stars is over.
2. True love -- You know, I've realized that the concept of two characters on a TV show being destined to be together doesn't annoy me half as much as the same expectation for those characters way, waaaaaaay after it makes any sense. I still maintain that if Rachel were my best friend, and she were still even remotely interested in Ross, every mention of his name would be followed by a smack upside her head with a two-by-four.
3. Losing the element of surprise -- Joey is Emma's father. Now, that would have been surprising, interesting, sweet, and cool. Ross is Emma's father? Blech. (Remember when Monica popped up in Chandler's bed in London way back when? Now that, I loved. I don't expect stories like that anymore on there, and that's why I don't watch.)
4. The spinoff attempt that bored me -- It happened with Highlander. It happened, although I liked it for a while, with Angel. And now Matt LeBlanc gets his own sitcom. Watch as I care. Watch as I care deeply.
I just want this over with already. No more press, no more Very Special Guest Stars, let Jennifer and Matthew Perry and maybe Courtney get on with their film careers and let Matt LeBlanc get his little spinoff and let David Schwimmer and Lisa Kudrow ... I don't know, wait on cars at Sonic or something.

Date: 2004-01-14 11:28 pm (UTC)Granted I like some of his work, in small doses (see also: SSX Tricky, Ready To Rumble), but he should have never been allowed to win the WCW Championship (now known in WWE as the World Heavyweight Championship)... or he never should've been allowed to win it and live...

Date: 2004-01-15 06:58 am (UTC)I hope not. Adult Connor was infinitely more annoying then Baby Connor and I was hoping for Angel to eat Baby Connor.
(Connor had it great and he fucked it up simply because he had Daddy Issues)

Date: 2004-01-15 07:20 pm (UTC)When something like that happens (i.e., someone with absolutely no business being in the industry taking hold of a promotion's top prize), the title itself loses its credibility. Most people saw it for the absolute joke that it was. And, seeing as WCW was racking up debts of over $80 million a year, and how the AOL/Time-Warner merger leveraged some of the power away from Ted Turner, they saw fit to sell off the promotion to Vince McMahon, who eventually killed it off.
