Am halfway through watching Mamma Mia!

Okay, the only two reasons I'm continuing to watch this is because Amanda Seyfried is adorable (and she's got a lovely voice) and Meryl Streep is obviously having a blast and it's improving the hell out of this thing. Which really isn't awful, per se, but it's so fluffy and lightheaded it's tipping more than often into idiotic. It's harmless, though, just ... sheesh.

Oh, God, Pierce Brosnan's started singing. *wince*

IMDB says that, when asked if he'd like to star in a movie with Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan was all: "OMG! Yes, please!" and only later thought to ask what it was...

Meryl Streep totally made that movie for me :)

Heh. I don't blame him one bit. I saw her in Doubt a few weeks back and it never ceases to amaze me that she can scare the crap out of me in that movie and she looks like she's having a great time here.

It is sort of lovable. Flawed as all hell, but lovable.

It's not high cinema by any means, but it's definitely fun. And like you mentioned, it looks like everyone had a blast.

And Colin Firth is such a cuddly dork.

Oh, yeah. It's definitely charming, that's for sure. Although I feel like it got the Golden Globe nomination for best film Wall-E should have had.

I love the crack that is that movie. I giggle every time Pierce Brosnan sings in it; I just can't take him seriously that way. If you haven't seen it, stay for the sparkly that is the credit performance.

I love it for all the regular, everyday Greek women in "Dancing Queen", which makes the movie for me.

But I can't get through Pierce Brosnon's songs without massive giggle fits. When we saw it in the theater, I turned to my sister and whispered, "That right there is the song of the Brave Little Toaster."

Oh, I know! Hee. I kindof adore that movie for the sheer dorkiness that it is. :-D

Watched this over the holidays. You have my reactions, almost word for word. Amanda (Big Love) and Meryl keep it going. Plus, yknow...Christine Baranski helps. But the fluff hurt my brain.

On the wiki entry there is a summary comment for reviews of Brosnan's singing. "water buffalo', 'braying donkey' and 'wounded raccoon' are some of the comments. I can't argue with any of them.

I don't even care what Pierce Brosnan's singing is like because I was too busy giggling hysterically that Pierce Brosnan was singing Abba.

I really need to get around to watching this! I've seen clips, and Amanda is the cutest thing ever. And Meryl is Meryl, which is reason enough to watch anything.

lol, i was watching this last night - i find the singing winceworthy all round, actually, but they make up for it with the sheer glee in which they do it.

And the Greek village chorus was INSPIRED

Yeah, he's pretty bad. But I like where they go with Colin Firth. :)

You're doing better than me - I didn't manage to get to the end of the first song.

OMG what a bad movie. Soooo bad. Hee. But I'll give it up for Pierce Brosnan - he really can't sing, but he also clearly does not give a shit because...well, he's Pierce Brosnan and he can do that. So he just puts it out there and it's almost admirable, if not much fun to listen to.
