Maybe it's important to note that in the movie he gave this speech, instead of the more realistic speech he intended to give, BECAUSE HE WANTED A DATE. That's right. He gave this wishy-washy speech 'cause he needed to get some.
Of course, the more horribly unrealistic part of the movie is that people cannot unmix political and personal affairs. Hell, lots of marriages are between people with opposing viewpoints, and I've yet to hear of one that got dunked because of that. So, to sum up, this speech would never be actually given by a politican :)
