Twilight fans are crazy ... film at eleven.

My first reaction, after the subject line, was, "The proportions are all wrong on that." Which is impressive, really, considering I should STILL be saying, "No, seriously, something is WRONG with people."

You know what bothers me? Someone actually made a stand-alone womb. Like having a vampire monster baby claw itself out of a *person's* stomach isn't the horrifying trip it really is (see Alien). No, it's a completely natural and seperate thing. Was Bella even there? WHY DOES THIS EXIST?

Knitted uteri (felted or otherwise) have been done before -- the most popular pattern I know of suggests it as a gift for a woman who's pregnant or undergoing a hysterectomy, and notes that it's supposed to be stuffed with I-forget-what to make it microwavable so it can be used as a little heating pad.

Also I seem to remember something about a fetus coin purse pattern at the Anticraft.

But the felted Renesmee-in-utero was still pretty damned freaky.

I have to admit that I find *all* the stand-alone wombs slightly creepy and inappropriate. I mean, if it gives someone comfort, that's awesome, but if I were given such a thing I would likely do a ritual burning.

Now the Renesmee is still on an entirely different level of weird and creepy.

"Appropriate" is admittedly very situational and dependent on the individuals involved. (I didn't note till after posting my above comment the thread below where people are speculating on making a felted uterus with a beetle or Cthulhu or something inside. Anything that creeps some people out is going to have others going, "Cool!")

And given that I find Twilight fannishness to be mostly a warning indicator for squicky attitudes about romance (ironic "fans" who are aware of the issues very much excepted), I'm thinking it's fitting the pattern to have the Renesmee thing serve to flag who's got some interesting issues with the whole pregnancy concept.

Ohferfucksake.

I can no longer leave the house without a holly stake in my purse. These are the sort of people that give all fandoms a bad name.

You know, I was all caught up in the joy of the Twilight lulz, thoroughly enjoying myself. Then my 15 year old cousin showed up and my Grandma's house wearing a Twilight teeshirt. I assumed she was wearing it ironically, but of course, no.

Then I got treated to a story about how she was having trouble meeting "like, a totally great guy" until she read that book and realized that the creepy loner had been semi-stalking her was actually "like, totally romantic and everything".

So, they're dating now. Awesome.

Now Twilight just makes me feel disquieted.

That story is actually more disturbing than the creepy felt uterus...which is saying an awful lot, obviously.

Yeah. It sort of put the whole Twilight experience into perspective for me. Which blows, because I was really loving the lulz. Now I just worried about all the stupid teenage girls who are looking at Edward as their mainstream idea of "sexy".

Oh, man. Here's hoping that that that sort of reasoning doesn't stick around for long! It makes me sad, though, because I've said to people that the books could actually affect the way kids look at things, and they didn't believe me.

It's making a lot of young girls view abusive guys as romantic.

That is so, so depressing. I *hate* the, "Oh, if he's a jerk to you it must mean he likes you!" crap. Thanks, S. Meyer, for helping to make it even more popular! Gah.

OMGWTF!

I read the recaps of the rest of the books after reading Twilight because I couldn't stomach reading another word. The recaps sucked too.

The movie wasn't half bad though. Weird.

The movie wasn't half bad though. Weird.

Strangely enough, I was positive when I heard that they were making a movie out of it that it couldn't be worse. And it wasn't, really -- I mean, it definitely wasn't GOOD, per se, but they did a decent job of getting rid of a good amount of the stuff that was idiotic.

And wasn't the director fired from making the sequel? Methinks there is a connection there somewhere.

Mm, yeah, Catherine Hardwick(e?) isn't making the sequel.

Which is, indeed, sad. Possibly also they went, "Wait, isn't this the director who made Thirteen"?

I tried leaving a comment to the OP that wasn't insulting. I gave up after writing 4 completely different comments.

The proportions are the LEAST of the issues with that thing.

Actually, from a fiber art standpoint, that's a pretty cool little piece. Also, I like scary things - though it would be scarier if you opened the egg/womb/whatever to find something really unexpected - a beetle, maybe, or a felted parasite.

I thought that too.

Actually, if it weren't related to Twilight, I'd totally tell the OP to submit it to The Anticraft. But... no.

It wasn't the vampire baby in the womb that disturbed me as much as her gushing about "normalizing" and how Bella was so lucky to have a guy who would rip the child from her womb with his teeth.

If *you* produced it? No different than the knitted uterus we talked about a while back.

Given the motivation for this? Proof once again that this is why fandom should be left in the hands of professionals.

My cousin and I had a big ol' talk about why Twilight was creepy. She both loves it for the 'hot guys', and hates it for the epic fail (she dislikes Smeyer, Bella, Edward).. but probably loves it for that very reason. Her favorite is Emmett, which makes me feel a bit better.

However, a long time ago, I put the fear of Nancy into her.. I don't think she's going to be dating till I'm dead XD .. when she got into Twilight I warned her that the secret unknown part of Twilight happened to be the Boogey Man of all Vampires: a witch named Nancy that will cut a damn head off if someone messed with what was hers. (She roleplays online the Twilight crap all the time.)

So yeah. Creepy find. O.o
