... that it only JUST hit me that Hugh Jackman will be speaking with the Australian accent for the entirety of the Oscars on Sunday? I don't know why every time I pictured him announcing at the show, my brain supplied an American accent.

And there are hopes he'll do it in his normal Aussie accent, and not the broader outback-Aussie one he uses in 'Australia'. I have relatives who speak like his character in that movie, but most of us are slightly more urbanised...

I'm always bemused that people find the Australian accent (ie the one I speak and think in) attractive, as it's really rather odd compared to - well, anything, really. Not even Meryl Streep could do a decent Australian accent and she's Meryl STREEP.

Hugh Jackman speaking it does help though. Oh yes.

And he has quite a nice normal "everyday" accent. (Mel Gibson used to have one too, believe it or not. But he lost it as he slowly turned batshit insane. Coincidence? I think not.)

An acquaintance of mine was at WAAPA with Mr Jackman and one night at a fancy dress party he turned up as the Tin Man from the Wizard of Oz, all in silver body paint with a funnel on his head and another one on his bathing suit area which he used to wander around and goose all and sundry. And now he's hosting the Oscars. Fantabulous.
