The CW President Dawn Ostroff began telephoning executives at Warner Bros. Television and CBS Paramount Network Television about the decision Tuesday morning. The network could announce the news as early as this afternoon.

In addition to “Smallville,” the series renewed for next season are “Gossip Girl,” “90210,” “America’s Next Top Model” (cycles 13 and 14), “One Tree Hill” and “Supernatural.” While the solid ratings for all six shows made pickups likely, the renewals were not all foregone conclusions.

*crosses fingers* I want to see more sources before I go nuts with the Muppet arms. But if it's true, THANK FUCK.

Thank the good lord. Man, cancellation is bad enough, but cancellation when the exec producer has said he'll kill all the characters off if the show isn't coming back is incredibly upsetting.

I would have thought, given the early bad reports I'd heard, that 90210 would not have been one of those up for renewal. Things must have picked up some since I last paid attention.

Nah, don't feel bad. And I don't know if he's still there, because technically I'm not watching it as it airs. We got rid of our cable awhile back, and now I just buy the DVD box sets as they come out. I haven't seen any of the current season yet. But I believe last season was supposed to be his final one, if the articles I read were right.
