Supermodel Christie Brinkley turned an outing to see revived Broadway musical West Side Story into a life lesson for her teenage son - in a bid to warn him about the dangers of gangs.
The blonde beauty admits she's worried her 13-year-old son Jack - from her marriage to ex Peter Cook - will get in with the wrong crowd, and she saw the opening of the musical as an ideal opportunity to teach him all about gang violence.
The production features rival gangs from different cultural backgrounds, whose fights turn fatal when one leader dates another's sister.
Brinkley tells the New York Daily News, “Not too long ago, my son and daughter were on an online game, and a pop-up ad came up and they were trying to recruit the kids to a gang. And I thought ‘Oh my gosh!’
"I thought he (son) could learn a thing or two from the show. Kids back then joined gangs, and (it) is relevant as these gangs are re-emerging.”

Date: 2009-03-24 04:02 pm (UTC)Well, isn't she all proactive and stuff. I can't imagine how 'relevant' watching WSS would be in preparing her son for a real gang recruiter. Not that he'd be seriously recruited unless he did the approach and actually survived the process.
Online gaming 'gangs'? Sorry CB, those are called 'guilds' LOL.
