astolat has written two Merlin stories which, to me, echo SPN. In “Onfindan,” Merlin and Arthur go daytrippring to slay monsters. "There, what did I tell you," Arthur said, as they snuck in through the back door of the castle, back in Camelot, without seeing another soul. "Nothing to worry about. Demon slain, child rescued, bard avoided. A good day's work, and no one the wiser."

The short, modern-day reincarnation (?) fic “Room 20” has a very Winchestery motel ambience — The parking lot behind Camelot looked safe and ordinary again in the midday sun, just cracked asphalt and a couple of beat-up old cars. Inside, the tired, sweaty-faced manager snapped, "Merle? How the fuck should I know? He fucked off last night without even swiping the floor. If you do find him, tell him he's fired."
