The article linked in this Jezebel post, in which two food critics at the Post give themselves a challenge to create dinner for under fifty bucks. That's right, fifty American dollars.

Fifty bucks buys me two weeks worth of groceries. Three if I invest in Ramen noodles.

That's not even mentioning that, as the Jezebel post points out, the entire challenge suffers from the same thing a lot of these articles suffer from -- the recipes are always so damn complicated it's hard to find someone who can pull it off.

I'm reminded of the Top Chef episode from this season when the quickfire challenge was basically to make a quick meal in under fifteen minutes (IIRC) from the basic dried and canned goods you'd find in, say, my cupboards. You would think Padma had led all of the contestants' pets out into the kitchen and set them on fire. OH NOES! WE HAVE TO COOK LIKE EVERYDAY PEONS! They moaned, they whined, you expected at any minute that they were about to throw a tantrum.

I adore the uncomplicated cheap recipes in the comments of the Jezebel post. Because when I saw "fifty bucks for one dinner," all I could think was, "A buck for a bag of frozen broccoli, a buck for a bag of frozen cauliflower, a buck for a box of elbow noodles, and a buck for a little tub of butter. And that would feed me for a WEEK, if I were desperate."

[livejournal.com profile] missyjack has given us beyond-awesome meta about Sam, his motivations this season, and why we shouldn't give up hope just yet.

That post makes me gleeful. Between that and not-too-spoilery pic from 4x18, I was struck with the sudden shocking realization that ... wait, I didn't have her friended yet?! DAMN IT. *fixes*

New SPN tonight! Speaking of things featuring Winchester boys that make me gleeful ... \o/

So we're getting a Chinese restaurant in town, which is a little odd, to say the least. For the most part, all we've had in this town is Italian, pizza, and sandwiches in the way of restaurants. As I told my mom's co-worker today, if they deliver, they'll make bank off all of the people in town and the surrounding areas that'll take them up on that. Nobody delivers in this town, or anywhere nearby.

They're currently fixing up the building and installing ovens and things, which is cool. But let me tell you, they're like two blocks away from me. I am going to be ordering Chinese food so often. I crave it more and more every time I walk past it. Today I craved it so much I stopped in the grocery store and picked up the makings for beef chow mein. And now I'm fat and happy and full of beef chow mein. Mmm.

God, I have so many novels I'm supposed to be working on. I'm planning a Panera trip for tomorrow, so there's that. I really do have to make a folder of the stuff I'm currently working on as opposed to the ones I'm just generally going to finish eventually, just gimme a minute, maybe next week if something occurs to OH FUCK IT I GIVE UP.

Also, I have to edit The Grand Prize Winner. That, I'll work on next week, I suppose.

It's gross and dreary out. You know what I want right now? I want a boyfriend if only so I can have someone to bring me hot tea and bake me cookies while I curl up in my fuzzy chair and read.

No, wait, I want a gay pastry-chef roommate for that. I'd like the boyfriend so I can use him for sex.
