Why the hell not?

A meme:
The problem with Livejournal is that we all think we are so close, but really, we know nothing about each other. Hence, I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about. Then post this in your LJ and find out what people don’t know about you.
Something for me to think about while I'm trying to get *something* done today for a change.

Date: 2009-06-11 01:33 pm (UTC)Now, the really ironic thing about this... is that I think Twilight is the worst piece of writing that I've ever read (but oddly I'm still reading it.... because I want to know what happens and the things I've heard about Breaking Dawn make me go. O.O so I need to read them for myself) and it makes me go o.O that it got published and other awesome writers haven't gotten published.
:) Anyway. So yes.
And I did your meme backwards! Sorry! :)

Date: 2009-06-11 01:49 pm (UTC)The thing with Twilight is that the first book wasn't that bad. I mean, okay, it was pretty bad, but on the other hand, three really awesome books afterwards would have made that a kickass series. I would have liked it if it would have been the lousy start to a good series instead of the good start to a lousy series, you know what I mean?
And, like, I don't have a problem with people who like it, just the ones who absolutely REFUSE to acknowledge the gaping problems with the thing. It's like my best friend -- she watches the movie constantly, gives the series to everyone she knows and has an Edward crush. On the other hand, she hates Bella and Jacob, thought the last book was ridiculous, and laughs at my two anti-Twilight shirts. We're a good match. :)
That said, rereading it is like rereading the crappy Titanic romance I save for special occasions -- it pisses me off so much that it got published at the stage it went out in (i.e., desperately in need of a no-holds-barred-no-feelings-spared editor), it jump-starts the HELL out of my muse. ;D

Date: 2009-06-11 02:05 pm (UTC)That's my biggest problem.
Well that and the fact that the writing is so BLAH.

Date: 2009-06-11 08:23 pm (UTC)It's one of those towns where you really do know everyone, at least in passing. It's also one of those towns with lots of empty storefronts and old abandoned buildings on Main Street, which makes it look a bit depressing when you're walking it. We don't really have public transportation up this far, so it's one of those nice little places where it's fun to be when you're a kid and nice to live in when you have a driver's license and can go out when you want but sucks like a Hoover during the years in between.
Oh, and once a year we have Old Home Week, when they have a parade and fireworks and food stands. The food stands are my favorite, because they have pierogies (although it's a very Polish area -- we can get those pretty much anywhere, but still) and potato pancakes and gyros and whatnot.
Also, we were once in the Guinness Book for most churches per square mile. They've torn a lot of them down since then, but when I was little I can remember eight churches off the top of my head for a town of about 1500 people. I guess when they founded the place every community -- the Polish people, the Slovaks, the Irish, etc. -- all had their own churches. My dad got to help tear down one of them and got to keep one of the pews, which my parents put in their mud room. :D
