So, there's that.
Jun. 19th, 2009 03:03 pmI read this yesterday and it pretty much says most of the things I've been thinking about the whole Obama/GLBT flack.
So I just spent the entire afternoon writing off an email to my senators and congressman urging them to support gay rights.
I just ... I wish this was a meme, you know? Yes, yes, write a timestamp, tell me what your ten favorite characters had for breakfast, blah blah time-wasting-cakes. I went on the websites of Casey, Carney, and Specter and not a one of them had a mention of GLBT rights that I could find. Casey had something about some program on the other side of the state to prevent hate crimes, I think, but that was it. Oh, and at least Specter had listing in his email subject list for DOMA and civil rights, so there's that. I wish instead of bitching about Obama, everybody was like, FUCK THIS, and dashed off letters and emails to their representatives to make their voices heard. Hell, it's going to make a hell of a lot more impact than if Obama just tries tossing off briefs left and right. (That ... didn't sound dirty until I typed it out.)
I mean, there's only so much Obama can do, really, especially at this point. And I can harass the SHIT out of my representatives, and they should be able to do something about it. (Or, hell, they could at least state their stance on GLBT rights on their websites. I'm just saying.)
