My dad asked me yesterday, "What's that thing you do to all the time?"

I blinked for a second. "Uh, what thing?"

"You know, that thing in Atlanta?"

It dawned on me. "Oh, you mean Dragoncon. I haven't been to that in a few years, actually. Too broke."

"Ah."

A long pause, before I added, "Uh, why do you ask?"

My dad shrugged. "No reason. Your cousin just wanted to know."

He wouldn't tell me why, and now I'm curious. Because my cousin and her husband are pretty much the last people I could imagine at Dragoncon. My mom, too. Now my dad and my brother would have a field day at Dragoncon, but my cousin, not so much. It's just a weird thing for her to want to know.

I'd assume it was more Atlanta oriented, if they aren't fannish. "Didn't Cousin Apocalysos go down to Altanta for some event every year? What was that called?" rather than them being interested in going themselves.

true. but I'm also a d&d gamer - between Buffy and Firefly and D&D.... *pouts* yeah, I hate not going. Now, if Jared or Jensen or Kripke decided to sign on I'd find a way- sell a body part or something! It would be too perfect to miss.

ahh yes, i'm a larper and d*con usually has a few decent ones. my first year was star wars minatures with a 6' star destoryer and all the other ships (and board) to scale. that and giant foam ogre game as well. and white-wolf always shows up and does a thing and it's the first time in for fucking ever it doesn't overlap with worldcon so even more people i'd just fidget and try to work up the nerve to meet will be there.

there are a few larp groups i'd stay away from, but generally d*con runs an ok gaming section.

it's also when i catchup on my anime and amv fix.

but the wife works for an automotive supplier so...yha.
maybe next year.

My husband and I talked about going to either dragon*con or comiccon next year - maybe. I've never been to comiccon - it almost seems too big to enjoy.

He's a Star Wars fiend, but not a gamer. The thing is - Atlanta is just a cool city! And there is usually something going on nearby - like I saw james marsters play at a little place nearby one year.

Never heard of worldcon - I'm so uncultured!

Well, I'll wish you luck for next year then!!

Ah, too bad you're not going, but I certainly understand why not.

And I'm wondering if it's that the cousin had heard from someone else geekish who was going and wondered if that was the same thing you do.
