Just for the hell of it ...
Nov. 23rd, 2009 08:23 pmThe holiday wishlist meme!
Step One
- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post (it'll be public) so that the holiday joy will spread.
Step Two
- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.
There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

1. Fic! If anybody wants to write me one of the prompts I was thinking of asking for for Yuletide next year or Mr. and Mrs. Smith babyfic (I only just remembered how much I wanted that when I watched it last night) or Rachel/Puck/Quinn fic or Kurt/Finn babyfic or Jo/Castiel/Ellen babyfic or Kyle/Oliver babyfic or Christian/Oliver babyfic (... I've been in a mental rut, okay?), I would totally love you and wish you ponies.
(EDIT: Also, anybody who writes Oliver (OLTL)/Oliver (VL) babyfic gets ALL of the ponies.)
2. Books! Specifically disaster books (as I collect them) and GLBT paranormal romances.
3. Candy! I like white chocolate, things that are cherry, strawberry or grape flavored, lollipops, caramel, peppermint, cinnamon, and gum, and dislike coconut, nuts in general, dark chocolate, black licorice, things that are orange, green apple or lemon flavored, and I'm kinda iffy on peanut butter (I like Reese's cups and outside of that I'm hit or miss on peanut butter in candy). Usually when I have a candy craving I buy Gobstoppers, Jujubes, cherry SweeTart Squeezes, those rainbow Warhead strips, Bottle Caps, Whatchamacallits, Hershey Hugs or the cookies-and-cream bars, Lik 'Em Stix, or Pixie Stix.
4. DVDs! I don't have seasons three or four of SPN on DVD, and I only have season two of Project Runway on DVD. With all of their flaws, they're the only two series I definitely want to have on DVD in total. I'd also like to finally have Earthquake on DVD, since I have The Towering Inferno and The Poseidon Adventure on DVD and it feels like I'm missing part of a set.
5. A new MP3 player, I suppose, considering I still can't find the one I lost. *sigh*
6. My own personal layout. I normally settle for whatever LJ-provided one catches my eye at the moment, ut I'd kinda like one all for myself.
7. To get published. I'll get there, though. IF IT FUCKING KILLS ME. ;D
8. Give your time or a bit of your pocket change to charity, preferably one that helps those who get dicked over thanks to our ludicrous excuse of a health care system.
9. Try to do or say something nice to someone who looks like they could use it as often as you can for the rest of the year.
10. PEACE ON EARTH AND GOODWILL TOWARDSMEN EVERYBODY!
... you guys, I'm not even drinking. Heh.

Date: 2009-12-12 03:30 pm (UTC)Regarding number 2, I have a copy of 'The World Without Us' by Alam Weisman lying around. It's basically about how long it would take for everything humanity has created to fall apart if everybody vanished suddenly. I'm happy to send it to you if you'd like it. :)
