It's pretty much an ice slick from here down to where my car is parked, so the gift certificate and holiday cash burning a hole in my pocket will apparently continue to burn a hole in my pocket until tomorrow. Faaaabulous.

It also continues to be the Christmas of Missing Presents, as Christmas Eve my great-uncle lost one of the gift certificates he got in our game room and my mom just called to ask if I'd seen the digital sunglasses she gave my brother or the bracelet she gave me. It turned out that she forgot to wrap the both of them in the first place and now she's all upset because of that and I had to spend five minutes reminding her that this year sucked and was a great big ball of stress and it's almost over, thank fuck, and 2010 can only get better unless the phrase "radioactively-mutated naked mole rat apocalypse" comes into play.

I haven't been able to sit down and make Yuletide recs, but I have read a few stories I want to rec and I've got them bookmarked until I can get a chance to settle in and list them. (Currently, I'm just totally happy that the three recipients I wrote for were thrilled with what they got. YAY!) It would probably help if I, you know, stopped staring out the window all, I WANNA GO SHOOOOOOOOPPPPPPPPIIIIIIIIING. I get to go buy clothes! Sure, it's pants for work at Salvation Army, but still.

Also, quick question: am I the only one who has zero desire to see Avatar? Seriously, I didn't particularly want to go see it on opening weekend and my apathy's only grown since then. I'd rather just splurge on a copy of Star Trek and watch that repeatedly instead.

I feel your pain. I've been snowed in at my parents' since Christmas Eve (come to Nebraska! Where the fluffy white snow will KILL US ALL!), and while I love them very much, I'm starting to feel trapped. But I can't even get into my neighborhood, let alone find a place to put my car while I shovel the driveway, so here. I. am. And the internet is not being nearly entertaining enough!

I don't want to see it either.

I feel the same, no desire to see Avatar at all. My siste kindly got me a copy of Star Trek so I'll be watching that tonight after getting back from friends of the family's boxing day meal.

I don't really want to see Avatar. Maybe I'll rent it on blu-ray for the effects, but I was never particularly enthralled by the reviews. The movie I want to see is Sherlock Holmes. Like right now.

I need to make Yuletide recs too, but I go through alphabetically by fandoms and so far only made it through A...oops. D: One of my recipients, the one for my original assignment, hasn't said anything yet, I hope they're not around because I was worried that they wouldn't like it...my pinch-hit fic is going over well though :)

Avatar's worth it if you have the means to see it in IMAX 3D. Otherwise...*shrug*

What did amuse me is that [livejournal.com profile] hickumu admitted that as soon as the female alien showed up on screen, her mental reaction was pretty much "okay, spunky female love interest - let's see how long before you're wailing and being useless while the males fight over you."

And then, later when it came to pass pretty much exactly that way..."okay, check that one off the trope list".

Ehh- I'll probably see it once in a theater for the eye candy, but my holiday pick is Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, in a walk.

I have no desire to see the $500 million movie about blue cat people Native Americans vs the military. I think I've seen a couple other versions of that before and have no interest in this at all.

If you want to see a much cheaper produced film with basically the same plot, you might check out Terra (aka Battle for Terra), which is a computer animated film. That was decent.

Avatar sounds like a big fat pile of overrated to me. My younger brother loved it, but I've heard a lot of mixed reviews leaning towards the negative. I'm sure it has a lot of strong points, though.

I'd go with Star Trek as well.

I had no desire to see the film but went with my sister anyway. I have never been so embarrassed for the writers/actors of a film in my life. I squirmed. The whole 'good guys' side being all 'SUBDUE IT. STICK YOUR THINGY IN! IT'S YOURS FOREVER NOW!' was just *headdesk*.

It was incredibly pretty though, Zoe Saldana was amazing. That's all I can remember.

Unless you are talking about Shyamalan's Avatar, in which case, that doesn't exist.

I wonder if someone's going to make a watchable fan-edit of it, with a new plot and everything.

I had problems with a lot of it, it might end up being fifteen minutes of Saldana calling Sully an idiot and watching him fall over things.

So a short inspired by comedy greats like Laurel, Hardy, and all the Marx brothers?
