I ran over to the Dollar General for a few things, and as I pulled out of the parking lot afterward something made a noise and the car started riding funny. Not running funny, but the tires were acting weird. So I stopped a block from my house (I was only two blocks away at the DG) and the tires all looked fine. I get in, and they're still running funny.

As I pulled into my driveway, the guy who parks on the opposite street behind me (who's always working on his own car) was watching, and when I got out and asked what was up with the car, he said, "Your back tire is locked up."

Sure enough, when he got in to try it out, it wouldn't move going in drive and only intermittently moved when he went in reverse. We checked my emergency brake (my driveway is at a fifty degree angle and it's always a sheet of ice in the winter, so I've always got it on when I'm parked out of paranoia) and it's just a smidge higher than it should be to be off. And even when we undid the brake it still wouldn't unlock.

Let me tell you guys, if I have to worry about fixing something on this car after being giddy over getting the snow tires on it, I'm going to flip out.

that sounds like something got fucked up when they took off your wheels to put the new tires on. go back to the shop and make them fix it.

Unless it was just frozen from cold and snowy or rainy weather with freezing temps at night then like the other said I'd take it back to the tire place and get them to fix it for free since they just worked on it.

Gah,that sounds depressingly familiar. I spent most of yesterday searching Craigslist for cheap cars (found a Ford Escort Wagon for $500) because that's what Tom's van did on Friday. It's the transmission. ::sigh:: Yours might not be the tranny, the situation is a little different.
