Today I went in for overtime and for an hour or so I was the only person in the rather large section I work in. I can't claim that I didn't slack off at least a tad. And the two or three others who showed up weren't people I knew very well at all, so I mostly spent the day delightfully alone at my wee little cubicle just listening to my audiobooks and whatnot.

And then I came home and got to watch a bit of the curling. And I guess there's more curling at 10 p.m. on CNBC, too. Seriously, it's not the Winter Olympics until you've seen some curling and watched the Jamaican bobsledders, and the Jamaican team didn't make the cut this year. It's kind of why I prefer the Summer Olympics, ignoring the fact that the Summer Olympics happen, you know, when it's warm. My favorite is still during the last Summer Games when one night at two in the morning I watched the powerwalkers walk in an oval for two straight hours. It was hypnotic.

Speaking of things that are hypnotic, I just saw the Hot Tub Time Machine trailer. What ... I don't even ... no, seriously, dude, where IS my car?

Here, have an adorable little girl hogging all the cute:

So much cuter when a baby does it than a teenager. ^^

I saw a trailer for Hot Tub Time Machine before ... either Sherlock Holmes or Avatar, I no longer remember which. Anyway, I'd already heard of the movie so about ten seconds into the ad I squealed, "Hot Tub Time Machine!", at which point my friend Lily looked at me like I was insane, which made her bogglement when the Trailer Voice Guy actually intoned Hot Tub Time Machine even sweeter.

Power walkers. Olympic event. For two hours.

Ladies and gentlemen, curling is no longer the weirdest sport ever.

Whoever is responsible for Hot Tub Time Machine must have some EPIC dirt on John Cusack, is all I'm sayin'.

I looked it up just out of curiosity and it's technically the 20km walk, but at the same time it looked exactly like the powerwalking old ladies at the mall at seven in the morning. Except it was this huge pack of fifty or so young guys going in a circle for two hours.

The commentators were critiquing the walking. And the techniques, and who was doing it better than others. It was the BEST OLYMPIC SPORT EVER.

To be fair, everybody who paid ten bucks to see 2012 in the theater has that exact same blackmail material. ;)

*giggle* That would include myself, so.

BTW, my sport of choice for self-hypnotism is short track speedskating. It's the LEANING.

Well, I have the screener on my laptop, so. :D

I'll be honest ... most of what I find hypnotizing about short track speedskating can be found in Apolo Ohno's uniform.

Well, yes. :D But seriously, whenever I watch it I end up swaying back and forth in my seat... and then feeling like a dork, but that's sort of a constant.

I spend that whole event terrified that someone will skate over someone else's fingers during a turn. Gah.

I wasn't scared of anyone getting cut until they showed pictures of that one guy who cut his thigh with his own skate. Um, OW.

J.R. Celski, who I just noticed is hiding a fantastic tattoo under HIS uniform.

I remember one Olympics an Australian walker had done the whole course, miles ahead of the rest, definitely getting gold, went into the tunnel to get into the stadium and was disqualified before they came out the other end. :(

The preciseness of the technique and judging is ridiculous. Very hypnotic.

Whatev...

That baby is definitely cute NOW, but she'll be decidedly NOT CUTE when she's asked to take the trash out when she's 13...

... plan ahead, parents, plan ahead!

Haha my thoughts exactly. In ten years, they won't so much be prompting her to do that as begging her to cut it out.

I have a free ticket to see Hot Tub Time Machine. I'm still debating whether or not I'm actually going to go see it. There's only so much stupid my brain can handle.

I was charmed that there was at least one Jamaican entrant this time around, even if not a bobsledder, and even though he was pulling the, "Not good enough to get on the team for the country I grew up in -- fortunately I have a parent from a country with much less competition in this sport..." dodge. I think I zoned out last night while watching the skiing cross competition, so no idea how he did on that (though I hope he at least made finals).

I haven't seen any curling yet (beyond that bit on The Colbert Report), but then what I've been watching has been the NBC coverage Mom's been taping, not any of the cable channel spillover.
