I have a new damn toothache.

It was only today, and it's in the area of my crown on the left side, which is all root canal which means the pain is probably coming from the filled cavity next to it. Except it's hurt before when I was still going to the dentist regularly, and he double-checked and there wasn't anything wrong with it then and I honestly don't think there's anything wrong with it now. Except for the pain, which I'll bet any amount of money will be gone tomorrow, but today I spent the majority of the day sitting at my cubicle trying desperately not to cry.

Only two more months until my medical, dental and vision insurance kicks in, you guys!

*headdesk*

But, yeah. I took a metric assload of painkillers and not a one of them worked. My tooth's still throbbing. Honestly, at this point I think it's just that it's all I can think about and therefore I'm focusing on it until it's SCREAMING at me. So if anybody's wondering what I'm doing right now, it's alternating between whimpering and trying not to cry and contemplating taking more ibuprofen except for how I was positive I'd taken ALL of the ibuprofen.

EDIT: Oh, hey, I found something that made my toothache go away! Well, for now, anyway. Yay for orgasms as pain relievers!

Brush your teeth.

If you have an exposed nerve - which you very well might, since conventional painkillers aren't touching it - by brushing the afflicted area (yea, even though it may make you want to crawl into a hole and die) you could dislodge whatever Bit of Stuff is pissing off said exposed nerve, thus reducing your pain levels to Fucking Annoying, down from Pray for Death.

My husband puts a little bit of toothpaste on the tooth that's hurting, and that surprisingly works sometimes.

For me, I ended up having to take 4 ibuprofen and 2 Tylenol to get rid of a toothache I had, which I don't recommend because your liver will hate you, and also you'll probably get really goofy like I did.

I always tuck a clove up as close to the tooth root and gumline as possible. Worked like a charm even when I had a broken tooth that was so bad I couldn't eat. I learned it from the manager at my old chili shack job, weirdly enough!

is it an upper tooth? i've got a couple of teeth with roots that go all the way into my sinuses, and they hurt like a mother when i get too congested but a dose of sudafed works wonders.

My hubby recent had toothache and found relief only through moonshine (Georgia Moon Corn Whiskey.)... which was very Ol' West of him. Painkillers just weren't doing the job, we had to go for 80 proof booze that numbed his mouth!

I've been having tooth issues on the left side since December, and what I found works are A) brushing with Sensodyne and B) taking naproxen (generic Aleve) if it starts actually hurting. Which it does if I'm careless about letting cold or hot substances touch the tooth I'm pretty sure is the issue. (I think it's a loose filling, since I've heard once they start to go you can start to have these issues.)

Sinus problems (and earaches) can make my teeth hurt, too- even ones that have been root-canaled. All the nerves in that area are a tangled up mess in some of us.

ETA: sometimes I even get pain in my bottom teeth from sinus crap.

Huh. It's worth a shot. I have been a bit sneezy of late. At this point I'll try anything.

By the way- I don't find that stuff designed to dry up my sinuses is very effective for me. It sometimes makes things worse. The problem, usually, is that my sinuses have crap in them and the drainage is blocked. So what works for me are saline (non-medicated) nasal sprays (use often), or inhaling steam, or a neti pot. Or any combination of these.

Also, expectorants tend to thin one's juices, as it were, and can help drain things- they're not just good for coughs.

Best of luck! Tooth pain is SO HORRIBLE.
