So I wanted to talk about my [livejournal.com profile] apocalyptothon stories, because I wrote something! Two somethings! And I finished both of them!

The cool thing about modding the ficathon you're writing in is that you can organize it so you get a prompt you know you can write something for. Granted, worse comes to worse, and you sometimes have to give it up and take one a little more difficult to handle so that somebody else can get something they write, then so be it. But yay, this year I got lucky and I got to keep [livejournal.com profile] soundingsea's prompt! :)

The prompt basically boiled down to "The women of SPN -- GIMME!" So I tossed around a bunch of ideas -- a "five things" story where dead female characters got to come back was the one which almost stuck -- but I really kind of desperately wanted to write a Becky story. So that's where Collect The Whole Set came from.

It just struck me that honestly, other than Lisa -- who at the time I started the story hadn't even come back into the story -- and Meg, Becky was the only female character who'd been in more than one episode who was still alive. And of course she was. Who cares about Becky? Who even cares to waste the time to kill her? I started the story when Michael!Dean vs. Lucifer!Sam was still very much a possibility, when Chuck was still the Prophet Chuck rather than Chod. I just had this mental image of everyone involved -- Dean and Sam, the angels, Lucifer, maybe even God himself -- not really thinking about her well-being. And why should they? She's not important. Even she'd understand she's not important, and that there are bigger fish to fry, and that if she survived the apocalypse it'd be through dumb luck and simply not being important enough to get rid of.

The thing is, in the grand scheme of things in this very canon, she would be important, more important than anyone would give her credit for. Becky, for all of her over-excitement and awkwardness, knows the canon of the "Supernatural" books so well Chuck contacted her of all people to get in touch with the boys. And following "The Real Ghostbusters" she was in a unique position to learn both the canon in the books and the canon in Chuck's unpublished books. That's huge. Other than Chuck, she probably knows more than anyone else about what exactly is going on behind the scenes.

No one really gives her credit for that.

I had these great big plans for making it a longer story where Becky goes off and discovers just how powerful knowledge can be, but it never really went further than that one moment in time. I like that one moment in time, though, where Becky's clearly losing it -- and for good reasons; how does one keep sane during the apocalypse even without the possible threat of being too close to the action? -- and the one thing she has to focus on is that she's the only person left alive who could possibly know just how important the "Winchester gospel" might be.

Aaaaand then there's The Long And Winding Road.

So I PM'ed [livejournal.com profile] soundingsea and said, "Hey, bb, which women do you like the best?" Because I know how a lot of people feel about Becky and ... well. She doesn't like Castiel and I made very sure not to even mention him, so I didn't want to give her Becky and only Becky if she hated Becky with the fire of a thousand suns. So she said she liked Mary, Jo, Ellen, and Jess the best, and the first thing that popped into my head was, "Woohoo! Road trip!"

Obviously THAT was AU, because ... hi, they're all dead. And aside from putting them in a car together, I honestly didn't really have a plot. Just the really fucking ridiculously goddamn awesome thought of the four of them in a car together just trying to survive the damn apocalypse.

Then somewhere along the line it turned into something seriously fucked-up and scary, and if I hadn't just started it a week ago I'm pretty sure I could have just kept going FOREVER.

That said, it's now given me inspiration for a new novel where it's after the apocalypse and all of the men died. A book where the world ended and the only characters are female? That would be so my shit, yo.

I still do have to sit down and respond to comments, which hopefully I'll get a chance to do either today or tomorrow. I was going to sit down and write a Chuck story today, but I think I have to have a nice little marathon so I can theorize hardcore.

So instead today shall be editing Heroine Addiction, which I plan to do just as soon as I finish my hot chocolate and head out of the cafe. (I so very much needed to get the hell out of my apartment. I just wish it were warmer so I could go to my parents' house and commandeer their deck chairs for the afternoon.)

I would definitely be up for a Y: The Last Man, without the Y. Especially written by you.

It's the manuscript I finished a first draft of a few months ago about a bisexual biracial plus-sized former superheroine. :)

Especially if it has a better ending than Y: the Last Man. The monkeys, lesbians, and pirates would be welcome, though, right?

This post is full of so much win. Especially the Becky fan-fic. Becky gets it. More than anyone else on that show, Becky gets it.

Thank you so much for considering which characters I like to the point of writing me two stories! I actually love Becky, so that was just a bonus. :) She's US, ya know? And awesome. But wow, dead lady AU is also super-awesome. Glad I didn't have to pick. :)

(And thank you for leaving Castiel out. :P)
