So instead of being home and watching SYTYCD, I am currently sitting in a McDonald's about twenty minutes away from home and using their sweet free wifi until my netbook runs out of battery power.

Oh, I could have had a ride home. After calling my dad to ask for hints on how to get the car to cool down faster, my dad suggested I call my mom (who was out shopping not far from where I'd ended up) to get a ride home. So I called her, and she sniped at me until I finally just broke down, pissed at my stupid overheated car that never fucking works, and my warm loving mother who knows full well that I've been on antidepressants before (although she doesn't currently know that my first stop as soon as my effective date for my medical insurance hits is the first doctor who'll put me back on meds again) said in her most well-meaning voice, "Oh, quit your bitching and crying or I won't pick you up."

"Fine, fuck it, leave me here," I snapped, and hung up on her, and considering she's the one who pays for and bought the shitty cell phone that gets reception approximately nowhere on the goddamn planet, she's lucky I didn't throw it into the path of the nearest tractor-trailer.

Fifteen minutes later, she pulls up next to my car.

By now, I've calmed down to almost zenlike levels. It's interesting how being volcanically fucking pissed at someone will do that to you. I was doing sudoku puzzles when she pulled up. She honked her horn. I looked over at her, then went back to my puzzle. Two minutes later, she gets out of the car and snaps, "Are you coming or not?"

"No," I said. "I'm staying right here."

"Fine," she yelled, and got back into her own car.

Aaaand here I am an hour later, stranded at Mickey D's, waiting for my car to cool down so I can drive it home. Ten minutes after she left me in the parking lot of the beer distributor I'd managed to make it to at that particular point in time, I texted my brother and told him to tell my mother there was no way in hell I was coming to our family's usual Memorial Day barbecue.

Yeah, have fun explaining to your mother-in-law why her oldest grandkid didn't show up for the one weekend a year she bothers to grace us with her presence, Mom.

I'm really sorry to hear this, bb. Things will look up, though. Your insurance will start and you can get what you need meds-wise.

I spent years not really talking to my mom, and really only started again because my grandma (now deceased) wanted me to. My mom still doesn't understand me and probably never will, but I set clear boundaries she has learned to leave alone, and we get along (more or less). I hope your mom eventually comes around.

Well, I gotta say that this doesn't sound like an anti-depressant issue as much as a "mom was having a bit of an inappropriate snit" issue.

Our old Mercury used to need time to cool down when driving it anytime it was above about 75 degrees. I found popping into neutral every chance I got helped, as was planning a route with places to let the car sit. So I've been there and know how you feel. If I was anywhere nearby I'd pick you up, seriously.

Yeah, same deal. Come high summer, every red light was an adventure. "Is it gonna start, or am I about to be cussed out by half a mile of stopped traffic again...."

gah, sounds painfully familiar. *hug* And, yeah, I'd've pushed the car home first.

So, this is unrelated, except that you are having a bad day and like apocalypses (arguably, this ought to mean having a bad day would be your favorite, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't work that way, heh).

Anyway. So, I am reading some of the entries to apocabigbang, and I think you are not watching it, and I cannot remember whether I've seen you mention it? Maybe you know all about it and I just wasn't paying attention, but in case you hadn't seen, and it would be cheering upful to you to learn there is a long, GOOD, hundred-acre-woods apocalypse in the world, I thought I would tell you.

http://tryfanstone.co.uk/andisthere.htm is the Pooh story; warning for things one might find in an apocalypse.

comm is apocabigbang. In case you haven't seen and would like to.

either way, I think being somewhat stompy at your mom seems fair. I can't hear your more recent voice posts cos apparently linux/whatever those sound files are = NOTOTP, so I dunno if things got better.
