Ben Stein: The Unemployed Are People With ‘Unpleasant Personalities…Who Do Not Know How To Do A Day’s Work’

Yeah, that's why I got laid off. Because I was lazy and unpleasant.

... oh, wait, sorry, it was because I was hired after the date they chose as the cutoff point. And in complete disregard of the fact that I regularly got the highest numbers on the entire production floor and showed up for every day of overtime they offered.

EDIT: I feel like I should also add that my immediate supervisor at the old job went to her boss to try and argue for Jess and I to be rehired when we were laid off because by being objective in regards to who they laid off, the company laid off a lot of people who worked their asses off and kept a lot of people coasting on their seniority.

You can always tell which political figures have never been unemployed by how smug and derisive they can be about the unemployed.

If unpleasantness and laziness laid one off, Ben Stein would be unemployed.

Right. I guess, back when I was laid off from my first job, my boss was lying about cutting the budget/staff in half, and sent us all packing because we were -- all of us -- lazy and unpleasant.

So all these people who were never on the unemployment rolls until recently, they spontaneously developed unpleasantness and laziness right before their company decided they could no longer afford to pay them? Here was me thinking the laziness was an artifact of being on unemployment, namely being unwilling to take a job that's as much work as the one they got laid off from at two-thirds the pay, and the unpleasantness was also an artifact of being on unemployment, namely people tend to be in a persistent shitty mood when their income is a third what it used to be and the people who drove the economy into the ground insist that the economic woes are all the fault of the unemployed.

Screw personal morals and ethics! It's a JOB that makes a person good or bad! Oh, fuck you, Stein.

Ben Stein should never say a word about people with unpleasant personalities.

I hate people who argue things like this when they've clearly never been unemployed in their life. At least not at times they didn't choose.

Yeah, I was laid off because of my unpleasant personality. Not because I made more than the other girl and also she had a car so was able to do things I couldn't.

There are enough right-wingers expressing these sorts of thoughts that I feel comfortable with calling this a line, but I'm sure they'd protest that.

I'm sorry, but considering how much time I spent earlier today crying because I had applied for so many jobs and barely had any interviews and the one job offer I had I had to decline because they refused to answer any of my questions and their reply this morning to my email declining it implied that I was neither flexible nor mature enough to handle the job (and possibly reality) - all I can say is, DIAF, Stein, DIAF.
