Was supposed to spend the day writing, instead spent most of it cleaning my house. Of course, I did it because the mess was distracting me and now I'm not fixated on what else I could be doing instead of writing, but still.

That said, I found the holiday meme, so what the hell, why not?

THE HOLIDAY WISH LIST MEME

1. Make a post to your LJ. The post should contain your list of ten holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from something simple and fandom-related to something really big. The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

2. Surf around your friends list to see who has posted their list. If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy.

3. There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

1. Sign up with Be The Match and see if you might be eligible to donate bone marrow. Or suggest it to a friend or relative you think might be willing. Or simply donate to the cause.

2. Check your local women's shelter to see if they need volunteers or donations.

3. Go through your closet and find at least one dressy outfit you rarely wear or don't fit anymore and donate it to something like Dress for Success.

4. Call your local animal shelter and see if they need any donated food or pet toys or whatever, then pick something up the next time you go shopping for your own pets.

5. Help out at your nearest retirement home, or assist an elderly person in your neighborhood with their shopping or chores or whatnot. (Or better yet, volunteer to chip in for a prescription or two. I spend all day speaking with older folks who have the damnedest time paying for their prescriptions.)

6. If you think you have access to something which might be involved in a child's greatest wish, check out the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

7. Plant a tree. Or, considering the season and all, make a note to do so when it warms up.

8. Please try to treat people in customer service with respect. I know the bad apples spoil it for the rest of us, but people in customer service generally aren't stupid or mean, and sometimes no amount of proving as much will get people to believe otherwise. Sometimes a customer just being nice and understanding we're not stupid and we're trying to help them as best we can and saying thank you at the end of the call can brighten the hell out of the day of someone who deals with customers all day long.

9. Um ... I'd like to be published. So ... er, yeah.

10. I really do want to get a new netbook. And I know which one I want and all, so if anybody wanted to get me Amazon gift certificates so I could get it, I'd be grateful.

I know the list probably reads a bit twee, all things considered, but I really don't want anything blatantly superficial for myself other than a new netbook, and I don't really need one so much as one would come in handy for school. And as for wanting to be published ... well, hell, that's always my Christmas wish. And my birthday wish, and my New Year's wish, and my Arbor Day wish. It's that kind of wish.

As for the rest ... well, if I were going to be selfish about the whole thing, I'm just at a point in my life where I really don't care how dippy and bleeding-heart it may make me look to cynical internet fuckwits if I get starry-eyed about people trying to make the world a better place, and if the world is a better place my Lexapro-popping ass would be a lot less likely to freak out every so often.

But, yeah. Now you guys make wish lists. :D
