According to IMDb, Brad Pitt is going to play Mr. Darcy in the new Pride and Prejudice movie.

No, no, no, no, no, NO.

I think I'm going to watch Love Actually and zone out during the Colin Firth scenes.

Thing a lot of people forget: Mr Pitt is actually a bloody good actor, as well as being pretty.

Thing a lot of Hollywood actors forget: Stop trying to do a British accent, dear. It doesn't work for you.

This news is very bad news. I'm just glad I've had my creativity for the day already.

Yes, he is a good actor, and he is very pretty. But I have Love Actually playing on my DVD player right now, and ... NO.

(The sad thing is not the actors who try a British accent and fail, but actors who don't bother to try one for a character who is definitely, unchangably British. *coughcoughcostnerandkeanucough*)

AHHHH! NOT THE COSTNER!

When did Keanu do that?

Also, Keira Knightley's playing Elizabeth. She does not get to look like that and kiss Orlando Bloom and Brad Pitt. At the very least, it's detrimental to her health, because nearly every woman on the planet would line up to beat the crap out of her.

You're forgetting Ioan Gruffud and Clive Owen. Presumably. I mean, that triangle is central to the legend.

But Elizabeth? Elizabeth is supposed to be the less attractive one. Who the hell are they going to have as... actually, the name of Bingley's girlfriend escapes me right now; it's too long since I read the book.

Oh, yeah. With that list of male love interests, her life is definitely in danger.

Jane. You're thinking of Jane. And I'm sorry but as gorge as Keira is she doesn't have the Lizzie look that Jennifer Ehle had so perfectly in the BBC production. No one can best her as Lizzie. No offence intended to the actress, but Jane could've been cast better though.

Brad Pitt doesn't fit my image of Darcy, but I'll willing to hold off judgement until I see it.

But if I hear ONE non-British accent in that film I will be mad. Really furious. Then I'll go into denial and pretend that the BBC one with Colin Firth is the latest one made and there are no others...

Whaaaaaat? Bullshit. Bull-shit.

There is no need for a new Pride and Prejudice, and certinately not a Brad Pitt one. No. NOOOOOOOOOOO!

That is so very beyond wrong that I'm going to pretend you're just making it all up. ::skips off into denial-meadow, hand in hand with Colin Firth::

This may be a bit controversial, but I never liked Colin Firth as Mr Darcy anyway. However, I expect I'll like Brad Pitt even less. And Keira as Elizabeth, no matter how much I like Keira, just seems wrong.

*cries* My brain is bleeding now, and it's all your fault!

Why make a new version when practically everyone I know is completely bonkers over the A&E version? And Knightly? *stabs eyes more* Lord love a duck....

Brad Pitt as Mr. Darcy? Surely, they're joking? And I thought I had seen everything when I saw him as Achilles...this is even more wrong than that!

It could be worse. They could cast Jackie Chan as Passepartout in Around the World in 80 Days.

....the suddenly-everyone's-Mormon version of P&P is looking bloody brilliant in comparison. (At least Orlando Seale is fecking British!)

The BBC version with Colin can't be beaten, not sure why they're even bothering really.

Brad is great and all but... no. He's not British or broodingly darkly intense as is needed.

Brad Pitt is so not Mr. Darcy.

Who's playing Elizabeth?

More importantly what about Catherine de Burgh?

Oughtn't there be a moritarium on (presumably a faithful adaptation of) PandP for at least a generation. (Came here via jake2point0 flist.) Am now going to imdb to find out who is behind what seems, in a totally kneejerk reaction, to be an excedinly wrong thing.

April Fool's Day was last month, wasn't it?

Why does anyone even need a new Pride and Prejudice? The BBC did it perfectly, and with wonderful actors. And god, just, NO. Damn Hollywood ruining all my favourite books.

And I thought the Kiera Knightly stuff was bad. at least she's British! I love Kiera, but she is not my Lizzie. I'll be off, huggling my DVDs of the BBC miniseries. And hitting "pause" on the wet shirt scenes. Mmmmmm.
