You guys watching the Rumsfeld stuff and talkin' about it amuses me to no end. So help a deprived girl out here and fill me in on what's up here.

"Hee! He's busted!" isn't doing it for me anymore. Details people. Pleeeease? *adorable puppy-dog eyes*

Well I can sort of remember one question pretty clearly (my memory is horrible). He was asked a very long question, but it basically boiled down to "Would you be willing to fire people at the top of the chain of command (instead of just going for the little guys), if that is what it would take (to help this to not happen again)?"
He sort of sat there for a sec, and I can't remember exactly what he said (gah! i need ginko or something), but he was pissed and all 'that's not how we do things here...no scapegoats...blah blah". He sat there for a few seconds and kinda mumbled "that's all I have to say".

hehe rat bastard

God, I hate that guy. And I'm starting to get the impression that this isn't going to make him look good to anyone.

God I hope so. Wake up folks! (Except for my father and stepmother. They will follow bush and his lackeys to the end of the world.....oy)

I hope not. I think people might be tempted to be like, "Well! They apologized. Good!" and then not be like, "Hey, this shouldn't have happened in the first place."

Er, "I hope not" meaning that I agree.

Every tough question that was asked, he'd say "IT'S UNDER INVESTIGATION" and do some blah blah about irrelevant shit. Except for some reason the senate grew some balls and asked some pretty tough ones. McCain at least didn't let him get away with dodging the questions. If only they'd let McCain grill him for an hour, we would have received a lot of info, but the questioners were limited to, like, five minutes.

:(

Yeah I know. I hope they will ask themselves that, but my dad is really something else....hard to believe that we are related sometimes.

Don't blame yourself. I think that weird way he has of phrasing things is intentionally designed to keep us from retaining any actual information.

Paraphrasing...

"Hey Asshole! It took you this long to figure out things were fucked up, even after all the tours you did? And you still haven't quit? Why the hell should we trust you to find your ass with both hands and a GPS guide, when you could not see the abuse despite lots of complaints?"

Great, now I'm pissed at Rush Limbaugh, too. Could he possibly be any more vile?

He also hemmed and hawed and made roundabout statements about them having known this was going on in January, and the fault being all his for not going to the Lemur about it straightaway.

He was doing a lot of beating of the breast, and gnashing of the teeth.

But you know what it amounted to.

Lotta Sound and Fury-disguised-as-Penitence signifying fuck-all, really.

Here's what I don't get. We're supposed to lay the blame at Rumsfeld's feet--even though he didn't actually torture anybody--because as Defense Secretary he's in charge of the military and thus the handful of thugs who actually did this. Why doesn't that logic apply to the guy in charge of Rummy, then? And why hasn't anyone pointed that out?

What was the old saying? The buck stops...shoot, where did it stop, again?

Oh, I entirely agree.

If The Lemur hadn't sent people over to Iraq in the first place, none of this would have ever happened.

[spoken in timbre of "If Woody had gone to the police, none of this would have ever happened."]

And honestly, the blame should go on the morons who did the torturing.

AND on the morons who took the pictures.

AND on the morons who let them.

AND on the morons who looked the other way while all this was going on.

And, to some degree, on the person who dumped them on the net instead of taking them through proper channels.

But the American People[tm] can't see all those morons. So Rummy has to be them in effigy, after a fashion, stupid as that is.

Haven't you learned yet? The buck never stops with Bush. That's why yanking an apology out of him for anything is like trying to remove Excalibur from whatever hunk of rock it's stuck in this week.

It is right and correct that you should be pissed at Rush Limbaugh! He has been quite actively vile for YEARS now!

Yeah, but he hasn't pissed me off in awhile...because I've managed to completely avoid him for awhile. I guess the vacation is over.

Rumsfield, in a turn of events that shocked me, took responsibillity for the Iraqi abuse.

Seriously. He owned up to what happened under his command and said it was his fault.

Now I have some respect for him and it's weirding me out.

Sounds like one of Limbaugh's boring -parody- segments. He's done 'humor' things before and has been taken absolutely seriously.

P.S. The rest of the article confused the pee out of me.

In the U.S. Armed Forces, the commanders are ALWAYS responsible for what their men do.

Even if their men were two miles away and hiding, the commanders are responsible.

Thus it has been for many decades now.

The sad thing is that according to recent reports (as of news articles showing up this morning online) the Shrub is basically refusing to demand Rummy's resignation over this. This handler has too good a grip on the puppet strings to be thrown to the wolves...
