apocalypsos: (dorky costume)

So I tried to call my brother today and got my mom on the phone, because I forgot Bryan was going to Arizona on a school trip this weekend. And she was going to her graduation today, so hey, good for her.

Anyway, the cats. Rudy died, so my parents are getting a new kitten. (It's not like they're doing it to get a replacement or anything, but it's my mom's Mother's Day present.) And yeah, it's Siamese, too -- my mom refuses to get any other kind of cat -- and it's a little boy, and it'll be ready on Wednesday for them to pick up, which means when I go home in a couple weeks, the kitten will be about ten weeks old. (He'll be so, so, sooooo teeny and I'll die of the cute. I can predict this right the hell now.)

It's the name thing that's getting to me. I said, "So, what are you going to name it?" My father, apparently, wants Chubby. (I'm sorry, but have you seen what a typical Siamese body looks like?) My mom wants Noodles. Yes, Noodles. I told her that I thought her kitten-naming gland was broken. And my suggestions were quickly killed, because I said either Homer or Kermit and they're both saying they want a name that nothing else has. Oooo-kay.

Help me out here. Right now, at their house, there's Cooper, Spencer, Jasper, Owen, Niles, and Simon. We've also had Rudy, Oliver, Logan, Duffy, Chester, Duncan, Cleo, and Forrest. Anybody got any good suggestions for cat names? I'm trying to get them to give the kitten a name that's an actual name and won't give the poor thing a complex or make visitors think my parents are on crack. (Noodles?!)

Preston[1]. Felix[2]. Oscar[3].

1 - a dignified name that fits males of all species.
2 - I have a cat by that name now. Plus, Tony Randall just passed away.
3 - it seems to fit the other names. Plus, you know, Felix.

Good grief!

They are wonderful aren't they? Cute and serious at the same time.

Hell yeah. I was trying to decide on my favourite one before I replied, but... lost cause.

I also can't decide what I like best: Deric's interactions with his cats or with inanimate objects. Both make me laugh uncontrollably.

What about you?

Play on Words is my favourite (although Diana's Story is *brilliant* but it's so different from the rest of them I don't count it). But no, it's just his interactions with the world. I can't read his books on public transport or people look at me funny for giggling!

Well, the only cats I've ever had were named Clifton, Spot and Bluebarry...so I can't really talk. Heh.

Speaking as a siamese cat owner...

aren't they the best? They can somehow be both shoe cuteness and impatience at the same time. Given your love of disaster movies, how about Cameron? Or Sapphire for the blue eyes?

You could go to http://www.koratworld.com/documenti/thainames.pdf

and see what Siamese/Thai words jump out at you?

I am having the same trouble TP. I just posted which names I have windled down from the 10 or so I had swiminging trough my mind. Feel free if any jump out at you. I have always really liked Liko and Jake/Jack for boy names if their going for something a little more human...

I think I might try and see if I can get them to name it Wesley. I've been trying to get them to give a cat a Buffy name for ages, and that kind of goes with the rest of them.

I also like Sawyer, Leland, Arlo, Avery, Graham, Grover, and Webster, but I think I may save those for when I get my own apartment and my own Siamese cat. I like giving cats names I really like but wouldn't give a son in a million years.

Then again, my cat's name is Marinetti, so maybe I just shouldn't give people advice.

Noodles?
That was a popular nickname for the Uber-vamp on Buffy. I'd print off a picture and show it you your mom "This, this is a Noodles."
We named out first Siamese Dusty because my cousin's kid thought he was dirty and we got the name Willow for our second one partly from Buffy but also through my mom's genealogy research. I'd look for an online baby name list if you want a more human name for her.

Heh. I probably won't be much help, since I'm the kind of person who really *is* going to name all their pets afte LotR characters (hey, it's better than naming my children). But what about Hobbes? Or if you want to be really evil, Mrs. Norris or Crookshanks. *g*

Or. Um. *thinks* Crowley? Aziraphale?

After my mother's husband died when I was fourteen, she tried to fill the void with cats. From 1995 - 1998 alone, we have been through the following, which I am sure you will find to be a good list of names to name your cats:

Jubilee
Lex
Cagney
Sascha
Owen
Oliver
Ripper
Rayne
Sci-Fi
Pip
Frankie
Monet
Li'l Cesar
Peter
Parker
Grayce
Butters
Starsky
Hutch
Wilbur
Menudo

...and that's all I can think of right now...

Hmmm. I'm a big fan of naming it Wesley -- go the Buffy names! -- but I always wanted to name a cat Spock and Mum and Dad vetted that one when we named Jasper. Although you could try and get them to name it a Harry Potter name, too.

Yeah, I'm just big on the fandom names. Sue me. If the kitten was female, I'd be trying to get you to name her Jubilee ;)

Date: 2004-05-22 04:43 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] apocalypsos.livejournal.com
Oh, Jubilee would be my first choice if we got female cats, but boys are more docile. Besides, we're used to them. I did manage to get my brother to name his cat Logan, although that was before Buffy ever came on the air.

One of the main reasons I want to save up, go back to Pennsylvania and get my own apartment is so that I can talk my parents into giving me a kitten as a housewarming gift. I miss kitties all in lap and yapping at me all the time. :)

Of course, you also get cats who complain when you pay more attention to the computer than to them. Am currently being harassed by such a cat. It's like, "dude, not only are you not lighting the fire for me to mate with, but you won't go back to bed so I can curl up with you. What's up with that?!"

Although I'm sure Jasper doesn't speak quite so much like Seth Cohen.

I haven't been around for most of the time my parents have had Spencer, but he's so totally that kind of cat who doesn't understand why you're playing with that funny box when you could be petting him. In fact, he's absolutely confused why you would want to do anything but pet him.

He means well, but he's a total accident-prone dork, too. He likes to jump into the kitchen sink, and the last time he did it, he burned his paw on a skillet my mother was using. The goofy dope's been wearing a cone on his head for eight weeks now because every time they take it off, he starts chewing at his bandages.

My cats have been named:

Mouse (all black cat with a long tail== after Micky Mouse...only he was a she)
Uno -- Grey puffy ball of fur.
Chaos -- tortie.
Smudge and Pudge --sisters torties. Smudge was grey, and Pudge was...well fat.

Eeny, Meany, Miney and Mo. Four kittens I found on the street a lady was throwing them away. My husband didn't want to find homes for them... so they stayed with us, all four of them.

Sorry I haven't had more.
I did have a Cherry top conure named Pickle, a dog named Thunder, and two labs named Deputy and Sheriff.

Hah! My aunt had a Siamese named Noodle, years and years ago. You can tell your mom to discard that idea for unoriginality.

If your parents really want to go with the original food name theme, I suggest naming the kitten Ramen. And you can call him Ra for short, so people will think you named him after an Egyptian god rather than the perfect college food.

Given that list of yours, I'd say "Wesley" would fit right in there. Also, it acts as a lovely tip of the hat to the character who *sniffle* recently passed on, on Angel's finale. DAMN M.E. to hell!

Our cats are always named after characters who have been in movies, but the names must also be very apt and fitting to the cat's character:

(Mad) Max, Indy (Jones), Newt (of Aliens), Gozer (from Ghostbusters), Zack (for Dr. Smith of Lost in Space), Mulder, Scully, and (The Artful) Dodger. Though I often wish I'd named Dodger "Meowzilla", given his size and personality.
