Name ten cancelled shows you love. Extra credit for those killed before their time. Double extra credit for shows with major queer text/subtext.

Jake 2.0: Duh. I adored the hell out of it, and they killed it. And they didn't even give us a whole season, damn it.

Now and Again: There is a reason I love Eric Close. If they could put this out on DVD, I'd appreciate it.

The Flash: No, seriously. Of course, I was about thirteen when it was on TV, but I'm pretty sure John Wesley Shipp was one of my first crushes.

Firefly: You know, I didn't really watch it when it was on TV, but now that I have it on DVD, I'm so pissed about it getting cancelled. I need the movie yesterday.

The Invisible Man: Vincent Ventresca. Mmmm.

Max Headroom: I can remember watching that when I was a wee one, and maaaaan ... I hate TV execs. Cancelling good stuff. Ugh.

Cupid: Another show I only saw after it had been cancelled. Sometimes the Sci-Fi Channel is both a godsend and a vicious taunt.

Strange Luck: DB Sweeney once a week, and weird, almost supernatural luck of both the good and bad variety. What wasn't to love?

Clerks: You know, the cartoon. Someone seriously needs to explain to me why this was cancelled after a handful of episodes. (I'm not being literal. Please don't explain it to me. You'll only depress me.)

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: It had its day, but it could have gone on for the rest of my life and I would have been happy it was at least there.

Bonus -- Misfits of Science: I can't really remember if it was cancelled or it just ended because Dean Paul Martin died in a plane crash, but I have such good memories of that show and really wish they'd release it on DVD. (Shyeah, right.)

I'm on a list called Tape Search on Yahoo, and recently a fellow listmember offered to make copies of Misfits of Science (the entire season) on VCDs. I ordered a set for a friend of mine's birthday. Very cheap (less than $20), not-bad copies, very fast shipping. If you are interested, I can dig up the info for you.

Green Hornet - Bruce Lee as Cato!

The Hilarious House of Dr. Frightenstein - Great kids show with Vincent Price and sneaky science

Kolchak: The Night Stalker - Brilliant, freaky, and one of my childhood faves.

Night Gallery - It used to give me nightmares. :)

X-Files - Yeah, I know the last six seasons sucked. In my head, it stopped after the 4th one.

Haunted - My kind of show. I think I was the only one who watched it.

Buffy, the Vampire Slayer. Nuff said.

Angel, the Series - They had just hit their stride. ::sniff::

Invader Zim - the strangest cartoon ever.

and the one I miss the most:
Twin Peaks - such a brilliant, intelligent show. Layers upon layers upon layers.

OMG. The Grammar Slammer!

What show was that from? I've been trying to remember for weeks -- and you ...you KNOW!

Oh, and I agree about Haunted, Kolchak, Frightenstein, Green Hornet, Twin Peeks, and Cupid.

From The Hilarious House of Dr. Frightenstein (http://www.frightenstein.com). ::grin::

Oh, my god - someone else besides me actually saw that series?!?

I just finished the series again after not having seen it in years, and yeah, man, I could have used another season of Twin Peaks.

I used to go to work the next day, and the other copywriter and I would spend hours deconstructing it, discussing the references, and speculating on where Lynch was going. ::sigh:: I was so sad that he broke the toy at the end.

"Cupid" was on the SciFi Channel!? AND I MISSED IT!?

*wails*

I think "Cupid" was on the Sci-Fi Channel, although it could very well have been TNT or some other channel. (Then again, how many other channels show short-lived fantasy/sci-fi shows?)

My favorite thing the Sci-Fi Channel used to do (although I'm not sure if they still do) was when they'd show very short-run TV shows at noon during the summer. It's all their fault I saw cheesy crapfests like The Powers of Matthew Star and Starman and The Immortal. (Not that I'm complaining, because OMG, I loved awful sci-fi/fantasy so.)

Oh, yeah, that's the one. I used to sleep over my aunt's house and we'd watch that together, so I've got a nostalgic infatuation with it.

I only ever saw one episode of Cupid, but I loved it.

Wish it'd be released on DVD...I'd buy it in a heartbeat and start in on the musical I want to write based on it.

more than ten, sorry...

Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
The Flash.
American Gothic.
Dark Skies.
Angel.
Futurama. (This is supposedly its last season).
The Family Guy.
Clerks
The Night Stalker, The Twilight Zone, Outer Limits (v.1), Green Hornet, classic Star Trek ('60's and '70's...hey, I'm dating myself here...)
V
Kindred: the Embraced
The Adventures of Briscoe County Jr.
The Lone Gunmen
Space Rangers; The Phoenix (both lasted all of 6 episodes)
Golden Years (Stephen King show)

My list is, of course, heavily slanted towards SF/horror and animated shows.

My counter to this would be, name 10 (or even 5) shows you WISH they would cancel. They didn't get Friends off the air nearly soon enough for my taste.

One thing I remember about The Flash was Mark Hamill as "The Trickster". Apparently, the Star Wars money was running out by that point.

Also, the Sci-Fi Channel is running a Twilight Zone marathon right now. They've already had episodes with Shatner and Nimoy; later they'll have one with James Doohan. Thus, they'll satisfy the Trek fans who aren't getting their fix because of the marathon.

I second the thing about Friends... and most of the current crop of sit-coms and reality shows that currently permeate the television landscape. Then again, I'm a WWE addict, so what do I know?

Oh yeah...the TZ marathon. Sci-Fi's been doing that for the last couple of years, and I tape it every year. I figure by now I probably have them all, or nearly so. Which'll have to do until I can scrape up the bucks to buy the series on DVD. (Pricey!)

As for sit-coms...I can't remember the last one I liked that wasn't also animated. Might've been Soap...which just goes to point out how long it's been since the networks put out what I consider a decent sit-com. I'm pretty sure if they deep-sixed every sitcom on the air now that used real actors instead of animation, it wouldn't change my viewing habits one bit.
