I think I'll go curl up in bed with a notebook and Bulletproof Monk. That sounds so uncomfortable out of context, and yet ... *happy sigh* Maybe I'll just leave the notebook behind, since God knows I'll probably fall asleep halfway through. (And that's because I'm tired, not because it sucks. Although who knows? That might be a mitigating factor.)

Also, forgot to mention that in my continuing quest to own the world's largest collection of "OMG we're all goin 2 die + it really happened WTF?!?!!1!" books, I picked up "The Circus Fire" about the Ringling Brothers' fire in Hartford in 1944. Really interesting reading so far, although I must admit I had to giggle at the throwaway remark that to circus folk, Scranton was a jinx town. I felt like calling the author and calmly explaining to him that Scranton is a jinx town to everyone.

EDIT: Oh, and ... er, I joined johnxjohn. It was an accident, I swear. I tripped and fell on it, and ... uh, Edwards and Kerry latched onto me and wouldn't let go. Yeah. Right.

SON OF EDIT: I can't look at photos of the two of them anymore without some saucy song playing in my head. The last one I saw had the two of them smiling and clapping, and in my head, Edwards broke out in, "My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard ..."

Just out of curiosity, should I seek medical attention for that?

You want OMGWTF We're All Gonna Die books...check out The Warning, by Mike Gray & Ira Rosen: the true story of Three Mile Island. Alternately, for more nuclear fun, The Dorset Disaster is a great, engaging, technologically accurate tale of what might happen if a PWR really DID explode.

A good disaster book about a fire is "The Beverly Hills Supper Club Fire" ... it's about a fire from the late 70s that made the government reevaluate the fire code.

Oh and has anybody done a book on the New Year's Eve hotel balcony collapse? It was in the late 70's or early 80's, in Kansas City. I think there was a TV movie. *puzzled look, loss of memory*

Are you thinking of the walkways that fell at the Hyatt? 1980 or 1981, I think. It wasn't New Year's Eve, though, I know that much.

Yes, that one. I know it was a party, my aunt and uncle had invitations but didn't go.

I was hooked on true crime books for the longest time. I still watch wayyyy too much true crime TV. Damn Court TV anyway!

I was so pissed a while back because A&E had this show where they showed real-life tragedy stories using news footage and interviews and stuff, and that was one of them. I don't think they did all that many episodes, and then it just vanished.
