What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?
I got that from IMDb, which is apparently posting interesting entertainment links on the front page, including this picture of Nick Lachey wih the most adorable puppy on the planet. (Well, I thought so, anyway.) And either he's gotten puffy or it's just the way he's sitting that's making him look exactly like my cousin Kevin, which is wrong because my cousin Kevin is infinitely cooler than Nick Lachey.
And a little bit of my faith in humanity is restored with the IMDb poll for today, which asks whether studios should stop producing fullscreen DVDs, because two-thirds of the people voting said they should. Oh, God, how I wish they would. I loathe pan-and-scan like you wouldn't believe. And because the clerks at stores tend to simply presume that when you ask for a new DVD, you want a fullscreen version, I keep having to check DVDs twice over to make sure I've gotten the widescreen version, because I've gotten burned a couple of times after getting home and discovering I've bought the fullscreen version. Urgh. "But ... but ... I don't care if you've got those black bars on your screen, you're missing stuff if you watch it fullscreen!" I'll just be over in nerdland by my DVD collection.
While I'm going link-happy, the Sci-Fi Channel admitted its commercials for "The Buried Secret of M. Night Shyamalan" were full of crap. Good. Maybe that means they'll take those annoying things off the air now. (I was really getting sick of hearing, "Oh, my God, how could you do that to him?!" every ten freaking minutes on the radio at work.)
Also, some guy offered to foot the bill for forty PA Republicans to see "Fahrenheit 9/11". See, this is what I like to see. If there's going to be so much argument and dissent over a movie, then for God's sake, both sides should make the effort to see it. It makes no sense to argue vehemently against a film or TV show you've never seen. That's not to say I agreed with everything Michael Moore said, or even that I like Michael Moore, because I didn't and I don't. But I appreciate things like the little old lady who took up on the guy's offer, even if she thought it was full of crap. I also fully support Michael Moore's right to make "Fahrenheit 9/11" the same way I support that other guy's right to make "Michael Moore Hates America". There. That's my political rant for today.
EDIT: You know, I hate the fact that my hair is at its nicest the day after I wash it. I'm just saying.

Date: 2004-07-18 05:55 am (UTC)next on the evil list: early 'flipper' discs that have yet to be redone, and those annoying snapper boxes from warner/new line. *joining you in DVD nerdland*

Date: 2004-07-18 07:27 am (UTC)And the thing about the Sci-Fi channel really annoys me. That channel is beleaguered enough, and now it does stupid shit like this to shoot itself [and sci-fi fans] in the foot. And I like Night, damn it.
And I know the feeling about DVDs. I have had to go back to Blockbuster several times. I'm starting to reflexively check if a movie is Widescreen now.
And to my delight, NetFlix doesn't do fullscreen as default.

Date: 2004-07-18 08:52 am (UTC)I agree with that, but (without reading the article) I also think it's okay to decide you won't see/read/hear/experience something because you do not want to support the maker, regardless of who pays. For example, I won't check an Ann Coulter bookout of the library, because by doing so I would be adding to the demand for her work; similarly, for a Republican, it might be immaterial whether the $8 for an F 9-11 ticket comes from their pocket or not; it's still financing something they disagree with.
Of course, voting with your pocketbook like that does limit one's ability to criticize whatever is being boycotted (Since obviously it means you haven't actually experienced it yourself), but I don't think it's invalid.

Date: 2004-07-18 10:52 am (UTC)Our local video chain expects people to want widescreen. Which is normally very cool. But, they aren't Blockbuster or Hollywood Video, so they are just better. ;)
