Question to anybody who has a video cell phone -- how long a video do those suckers take, anyway? And if you were only to use it to record something, and then to play it back, how long could it last if it had a fully charged battery? And do you have to hold down a certain button all the time, or can you just hit a button once and then set it up to record you doing something by putting it on a table or something?

Not that I want to get one or anything -- I like my phone fine. It's for a story.

I don't have a video phone, but as is my understanding, they can usually hold just under a hundred MB... given the bad compression rate, I'd say... five minutes, if the batteries lasted. As to THAT, I have no idea.

In case you don't get good info on video phones, here's some info on my coworker's shiny new camera:

Sony digital camera. Small enough to mostly conceal behind a package of coffee filters. With a 256m memory card, it'll record for a little over 10 minutes. It can be switched on and left unattended. The battery lasts at least long enough to take the video, and to play it twice.

As to where that recording of our coworkers sneaking cake out of the office breakroom came from, I have no idea.
